They compete for Chicago City and State titles year after year.
This season is no different. But this season, Simeon is blowing-out its in-state opponents by margins never-before seen at Simeon.
Coming off a win in Memphis versus nationally-ranked Memphis East and a 2-point loss to prep powerhouse Montverde and the prestigious Hoop Hall in Springfield, MA, Simeon was all business when they faced Fenwick on MLK Day.
Fenwick hosted the 3rd annual meeting (split the last 2 seasons) at their sold-out home gym in Oak Park (near Chicago).
Fans and supporters wanted to see how Catholic League power Fenwick stacked-up against the #1 team in Illinois, Simeon (undefeated vs Illinois teams).
Fenwick never quit, but the outcome was never really in question. Simeon rolled to a 56-39 win.
This 17 point margin was actually Simeon’s closest in-state game of the season!
We aren’t trying to argue if this is the BEST Simeon team ever. But with these margins of victory over Illinois high school teams, we’re wondering if this is the most DOMINANT Simeon team ever?!
During the game 6’6 Fenwick football star Mike O’Laughlin (West Virginia) could be seen battling 6’5 Simeon basketball star Talen Horton-Tucker (Iowa State).
In the end, Horton-Tucker finished with 15 points, nine rebounds to lead Simeon. Key transfers who both come off Simeon’s bench Xavier Pinson scored 10 and Zion Young scored 9.
After his performance at Hoop Hall, Pinson picked up offers from Georgetown and Dayton.
Fenwick was led by sophomore DJ Steward. After being limited to 2 first half point (like Horton-Tucker), DJ finished with 11 points. Damari Nixon added 10.
