With about 20 minutes left on my flight from Los Angeles to H-Town, the pilot announced the Houston Astros just beat the Dodgers in Game 7 of the World Series. The passengers — many wearing Astros shirts and hats — just erupted into screams of joy. The last time I ever heard people cheer on a plane like that is when a pilot announced we were clear of turbulence after a 10 minute scare that had people praying and one guy actually looking for a quickie with a stranger (he really said out loud, “If I’m going to die, I want to die with a bang!”).
When I landed at IAH, it took about 20 minutes to get an Uber. When my ride finally arrived, the Uber driver explained he was at restaurant watching the celebration and that we would have to take a longer route home because people are stopping on a major highway (59) to take pictures of Minute Maid Park.
During that drive, I caught up with highlights and reactions from the game, including some from members of the Houston Rockets and Houston natives like DeAndre Jordan.
