It’s safe to say Patrick Beverley isn’t going to get many Christmas gifts from non-teammates. You can add Mike Conley and the Memphis Grizzlies to the list of guys who marked the H-Town defensive specialist of their lists.
During the final minutes of Friday’s loss, Beverley put Conley in a WWF move while he was trying to call for a timeout after picking up a loose ball. As soon as the refs started blowing their whistles, the entire Grizzlies bench was about to run onto the court before the assistant coaches held them back.
“It’s basketball. It’s physical. If that was a pile-up at a football game, you guys wouldn’t even be asking me that question,” Griz coach David Fizdale said of the tussle. “(Beverley) may have given him a little bit of extra, but that’s part of the deal. When two really good teams are going at it, nobody is going to give it up. I wasn’t worried about it at all.”
Conley, in his 5th game back, scored a team-high 24 points and dished out 5 assists.
