“I’m emotionally tired. I’m physically tired, and I’m drained.” said Rajon Rondo after an emotional return to Boston where the Celtics gave the new Dallas Mav a long standing ovation before the game and a video tribute before the 2nd quarter.
He responded to the video by playing his best game as a Mav with 29 points including a career-high 5 3-pointers.
“He obviously had his best game as a Maverick,” coach Rick Carlisle said. “It’s extremely difficult to come back in this situation and play the way that he did. … He showed a lot of class with the way he played.”
Along with back court partner Monta Ellis, they scored 51 combined points which was the most a Mavs backcourt has scored since the 2010 when they had Jason Kidd and Terry.
“He’s a big-game player. He’s amazing,” Mavericks center Chandler said. “To come into a situation like this where you spent your entire career and had incredible success, I know it had to be very emotional. But he came incredibly locked in.”
