Down by three with a minute left in regulation, the refs called a ticky-tack foul on DeMarcus Cousins. Not only did the BS call give Gerald Henderson the opportunity to push the lead to five, the call fouled out Cousins, who at that point had 46 points on 11 for 16 shooting from the field, 4 for 6 from three and 20 for 22 from the line!
Cousins was obviously pissed about the call and it probably didn’t help seeing Robert Covington, who had a nice game with 23 points, 10 boards and 4 steals, waving goodbye to him.
“Even with the unfortunate call there at the end, we put this on ourselves,” said Cousins. “It shouldn’t have came down to one play. We should have been able to close this one out on our own. We gave them life in the third quarter. They gained some momentum.”
The win for the Embiid-less 76ers snaps their 2-game losing streak and is the 10th(!) win for the team this month.
