If you thought Russell Westbrook was impressive in his last game when he had 26 points, 5 assists and 2 rebounds in 26 minutes then you will be blown away with his 13 point, 14 assist, 10 rebound triple double in just 20 minutes last night. 8 of those 14 assists came in the first quarter which tied his own OKC record.
“He made everybody better tonight,” said Kevin Durant. “He was moving the basketball, he was aggressive to the rim. I think that’s why everybody got open, because of his aggressiveness. He just set the tone for us.”
Do you hear that? That’s the silence from a lot of the critics that were calling Westbrook a cancer to the team.
Teammate Durant had 42 points, on 14 of 20 shooting, and 9 rebounds in just 33 minutes. The two stars had no reason to play many more minutes after leading the 76ers 98-76 after 3 quarters but things got worse for Philly in the 4th and ended up losing 125-92.
TRIPLE DOUBLE HISTORY
The triple double by Westbrook was the fastest in NBA history since Jim Tucker did it in 17 minutes way back in 1955. Since 1985, there’s been 24 instances when a player has recorded a triple double in less than 30 minutes and only Fat Lever was able to do it in under 25 like Westbrook. Lever also has the most impressive triple double on this list with a 21 point, 13 rebound, 14 assist and 8 steal near quadruple double in just 28 minutes back in 87 also in the same month as his 25 minute triple double. Lever also ties Larry Bird for most appearances on the list.
Kevin Durant also made the list with a 18/11/10 game last season.
