On Inside the NBA, Shaq shared his history with the late great Coach Dean Smith and said he almost went to North Carolina but they signed another 7 footer out of Texas (Matt Wenstrom) who nobody remembers.

I’ve always said Shaq was the most dominant player I’ve ever seen in College and the thought of him playing alongside Rick Fox, Hubert Davis and George Lynch is just scary.

Matt didn’t work out too well for UNC so the next year they recruited Eric Montross who did good enough there to be a lottery pick in the NBA but is a joke of a center compared to the MDE. Shaq didn’t care for Montross much either and punched the eventual Celtics’ center in a game.

In Shaq’s story he said Rick Fox was the guy who gave him a tour of the campus. When I heard that I couldn’t help but think about the scene in He Got Game when he showed Ray Allen a pretty good time – No I will not post that video.
