One of the smartest things an offensive player can do sometimes is use deception.  If you are a shooter drive to the  basket.  If you are a post up player, face the basket from 15 feet out or take the jumpshot.  There’s a good chance you might miss the shot because driving to the basket or taking that jumper might not be your strengths but there’s a good chance you can catch your defender off guard by doing what isn’t expected.

When LeBron was guarding  JJ Redick last night the last thing he thought was going to happen was JJ was going to turn into AI and pull out the crossover.  Typical of an unexpected move, JJ missed the shot – probably from the shock of making LeBron do a studder step 360 on defense.

LeBron did have a great defensive play in the game by blocking Dwight Howard from behind.
