Nearing the end of the 3rd quarter of the Blazers/Kings game it looked like it was going to be a Blazers’ victory and so when DeMarcus Cousins went down the middle of the lane and threw down a power dunk over former wasted #2 pick Hasheem The Not so Great Dream Thabeet I thought I had my State Farm Smart Play of the Day. Why was it smart? It was smart of Jason Thompson who somehow managed to catch the attention of two defenders to make the quick pass to the center running down the middle with a full steam of momentum.

Then the Kings made a comeback in the 4th quarter and with 3.4 seconds left and down by 1, they put the ball in the hands of Marcus “Instant Offense” Thornton who hit the game winner. The only reason why this play shouldn’t get the “Smart play of the day” is if the Kings wanted to lose so they have a better shot at the #1 pick – then this would be the dumb play for the team of the day.
