You can sit next to Spike Lee at a Knicks game & finance his next film for only $10,000 on KickStarter

If you want a pair of autographed Nikes by Mars Blackmon himself or be an associate producer on the next Spike Lee Joint or just want to sit courtside next to the Knicks fanatic after a dinner then here’s your chance.

Following in the footsteps of Zach Braff who raised $3.1 million on crowd funding website KickStarter, critically acclaimed filmmaker and love or hate him superfan Spike Lee started his own campaign for his next film.   The way Kickstarter works is a project creator (Spike) pitches his idea (film) that needs funding and lists incentives for money pledges.  For this project,

  • $5 will get you a tweet
  • $50 an autographed DVD
  • $500 a phone call with Spike to discuss He Got Game and Kobe Doin’ Work
  • $750 for some autographed Nikes worn by the man that played Mars Blackmon
  • $5k will get you an Associate Producer Credit at the end of the film (which will also allow you to get an IMDB  page)
  • $10k for date night with Spike that includes dinner and his wife’s seat at a Knicks game.

Here’s the description for the $10k Knicks game package

Pledge $10,000 or more

This Award Is For All Playa-Playas. For 10 Grand I’m Taking You to Dinner, Then You Will Have The Honor And Privilege To Sit Next To Me (IN MY WIFE’S TONYA’S SEAT) COURTSIDE – FRONT ROW IN THE BEST SEAT IN THE HOUSE AT THE WORLD’S MOST FAMOUS ARENA – MADISON SQUARE GARDEN TO SEE OUR BELOVED NEW YORK KNICKERBOCKERS, ORANGE AND BLUE SKIES. IF YOU DON’T KNOW THIS IS ONE OF THE TRUE GREAT SPORTING EVENTS TODAY. YOU WILL REMEMBER THIS EXPERIENCE AS LONG AS YOU LIVE. THIS IS A VERY LIMITED ITEM. YOU SLOW – YOU BLOW. THIS IS BIG, BIG TIME. PS. KNICKS WILL BE GREAT THIS COMING NEW SEASON.

Despite the recent box office numbers of Lee’s last joints (Red Hook Summer only grossed $338,803), I’m positive Spike can raise half of what Zach Braff did on his KickStarter campaign and since the film’s financing  came from fans and not a studio, the first penny it makes from DVD sales or licensing to a NetFlix, Redbox or self hosted streaming service will be a profit.

Also worth checking out are a few other Basketball related films that were on KickStarter including Doin It In The Park and Bounce Back: The Ronnie Fields Story
