Steph Curry Buries a Buzzer Beating 3 After Scuffle With Russell Westbrook
With 5.3 seconds left before halftime, Steph Curry and rookie Semaj Christon got into a little shoving match before a jump ball. To no surprise, Russell Westbrook intervened and exchanged some pushes and words with the Warriors point guard he seems to know now (who he?).
“I think Curry tried to get into it with Semaj, and tried to push him, and I stepped in right between,” Westbrook said. “Once I see something going down with my teammates, I’m hopping in.”
Curry remembered the incident a little differently.
“Your normal jump ball, fight for position situation,” Curry said. “I was just trying to get in between Russ and — trying to get in between those two. I felt him push me. I kind of let that first one go, and then I kept going, and there was another little push, and I tried to hold my position.”
Regardless of how it started, the modern day fight — meaning no punches, just yapping — ended with Curry, Christon, Westbrook and Draymond Green getting hit with techs from the refs.
The two teams then went back to the jump ball, Klay Thompson ends up with it, tosses the ball across the court to a wide-open Steph Curry, who buries a three and then runs to the locker before having to answer any questions for TNT.
The three gave the Warriors a 59-39 lead at the half and the Warriors would go on to easily win 111-95 behind 57 points and 14 threes from the Splash Brothers. Westbrook ended his night with just 15 points (4-16fg), 8 boards and 7 assists (5tos) in 27 minutes.
