Suns to waive Vince Carter | When Did Vinsanity Die?

In 1998 I started a Vince Carter site called Gotvinsanity.com.  The site was so popular that it seemed like it was crashing every other night after Vince Carter pulled off some amazing alley oop or dunked on the center of your favorite team.  After his dunk contest win I had to move to a bigger webhost.  A few months later after his lipton dunk in the Olympics I was moving to another host again.   Vinsanity was at it’s peak but over the next couple of years I slowly spent less time on the site and more on other projects and Vince Carter seemed to do the same as he spent less time on Sportscenter Top 10 Plays and more time taking fadeaway jumpers, laying on the floor after a foul or complaining about…you name it.

Gotvinsanity.com was shut down.  Then Vince Carter was traded to the Nets.   Although he was still capable of the spectacular (Ask Alonzo) and had some very good seasons in NJ, he just wasn’t Vinsanity to me.   Then came Orlando where he became a role player and by the time he went to the Suns he was just a shell of the old player.  Everytime he would dunk and an announcer said something like “he’s still got it” or “looks like the old Vince” or “Vinsanity is back” it just made realize how long it’s been since we saw Vinsanity.

As we enter the short 2011-2012 season, the Suns plan on cutting Vince and I expect a long list of teams (Bulls, Heat, Spurs at top of list) to try to acquire him but what I’m not expecting to see is any flashes of Vinsanity.  I’ve accepted that the same way I accepted Shaq as Cav or Celtic.  I hope I’m wrong but I doubt I am.

When did Vinsanity die for you?
