Going into Wednesday’s game against Duke, Syracuse had a three-game losing streak. Thanks to senior John Gillon, the losing streak was snapped and dreams of the NCAA Tournament stayed alive.
With five seconds left in regulation, Dillon dribbled down the court, pulled up at the three-point line, in between three Duke defenders, and banked home a game-winner to give the Orange a 78-75 victory in front of 30,331 crazed fans. Dillon finished the game with 26 points, including 19 in the second half. If that’s not impressive enough, he also had six assists with zero turnovers and his only shot in the first eight minutes of the game was an airball.
