FAB 50: Final Rankings for 2019-20?

Amid the Coronavirus pandemic sweeping the nation and causing change in our daily lives, four states were able to conclude their state championships last week which causes movement and brings two newcomers to this week’s FAB 50. Is this the final rankings of the season or will a few selected states be able to complete their season in early April?

State champs in Georgia and Washington are crowned with more state tournaments wrapping up this week. For some, the tourneys can’t end quick enough because of fears school districts may have to close down as a precaution to Coronavirus (COVID-19), as was the case for No. 34 Sheldon (Sacramento, Calif.) over the weekend. NEW FAB 50: Playoffs Cause Change!

The playoffs are tipping off all over the country and some early post-season results cause big change in the latest FAB 50 rankings!. The change doesn’t necessarily mean teams drop out, or can’t recover and move back in after a loss that didn’t end their season. One team jumps in all the way to No. 23!

UPDATED FAB 50 Rankings: Competition Leads To Interest!

It’s another week of upsets and big results, particularly Baltimore clubs St. Frances Academy and Poly pulling off big wins at the East Coast Bump, that change the pecking order of the latest FAB 50. Top ranked clubs beating up on each other makes compiling the FAB 50 more difficult, but also creates excitement and interest as teams position for a possible slot at GEICO Nationals in April!

It’s a somber week in basketball, as the nation’s top teams in the FAB 50 mourn the loss of iconic high school coach Morgan Wootten and global icon Kobe Bryant, the latter whom passed in a shocking aviation accident over the weekend. There are four newcomers in this week’s rankings.

UPDATED FAB 50 Rankings: Gearing Up For MLK Weekend!

This is the time of the year that we reward teams in the FAB 50 for remaining unbeaten and playing tough schedules. Although there isn’t an abundance of new ranked teams, MLK Weekend, particularly the Spaulding Hoophall Classic, should bring plenty of movement to next week’s special FAB 50 MLK edition!

Newspaper distribution and the Internet created greater interest in national rankings, but in actuality, United States high school basketball rankings began in 1959. Multiple national polls have been compiled for decades including the FAB 50, which is now the longest running weekly national rankings in the country.

NEW FAB 50 Rankings: MAJOR Shakeup For 2020!

It’s pretty obvious who the nation’s No. 1 team is, but the latest edition of the FAB 50 National Team Rankings was still the toughest set of results to compile, and make sense of, in many years. When the dust settled, we came up with a pecking order we’re comfortable with, including 11 newcomers!

NEW FAB 50 Rankings: NEW No. 1 & 11 Newcomers!

There’s a new No. 1 in the latest FAB 50 National Team Rankings, as Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.) takes over the top spot after IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) falls to Paul VI (Fairfax, Va.). Knocking off the No. 1 team was not even the most incredible performance by the Panthers recently, as they needed SEVEN overtimes to remain unbeaten heading into the holiday tournament season!

NEW FAB 50: Big GEICO Shakeup!

More state champions crowned over the weekend and there are still seven FAB 50 ranked teams looking to capture state tiles this week! No. 2 McEachern (Powder Springs, Ga.) will no longer play at GEICO Nationals and has been replaced by No. 25 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nev.). We’ll break it down this week!

No. 2 McEachern (Powder Springs, Ga.) secured its invite to GEICO Nationals in New York by winning the GHSA Class AAAAAAA title. The GEICO Nationals field has been announced and the event has its best overall field in its 11-year history, but will the Indians be at full strength?

NEW FAB 50: It’s PLAYOFF Time! “Just Win, BABY!”

Unbeaten teams continue to get a major push upward in the FAB 50 Rankings, none more than 27-0 Salesian (Richmond, Calif.), who is ranked No. 1 in California for the first time in school history and is up to No. 8 in the FAB 50 this week.

NEW FAB 50: SPECIAL MLK Edition!

After MLK weekend, it always takes us a bit longer to get out our new FAB 50! No. 1 La Lumiere and No. 2 McEachern remain unbeaten, but MLK results from around the country meant massive changes to the rest of the field in addition to eight newcomers, the most we’ve had in a single week in recent memory.
