Last night we watched a lot of young guns in the NBA show off their talents in the Team USA scrimmage. 6 years ago, we watched a lot of the NBA greats and young guns like a rookie Kevin Durant compete in a nail biting scrimmage game that came down to a Kobe vs LeBron match up.
Kobe Bryant, wearing a Team USA jersey for the first time, scored 26 points including 7 in the final two minutes and the game winning jumper over TayshaunPrince with 6.6 seconds left. He then defended and prevented LeBron James from hitting a game winner during the finals seconds of the game. Kobe’s clutch offense and defense made up for his lack of knowledge of international rules that almost cost his team the game. With 21.3 seconds left, Kobe tried to call a TO but under international rules only a coach can call a timeout.
After the game Bryant said he wasn’t trying to call a timeout and that the “T” he made was to tell the refs they should call a technical on Jason Kidd for elbowing him in the stomach “like it was a game from the 80s.”
