This sounds like a broken record: Team USA struggles early in the first quarter and then runs away in the 2nd half.
USA missed 10 of their first 11 shots and James Harden and Stephen Curry were a combined 0-9 in the first quarter against Goran Dragic (13pts) and Slovenia. But a 37-22 third quarter and a dunk fest in the fourth helped give the USA team a 43 point victory and the most points (119) they have scored in the tournament.
Klay Thompson led all scorers with 20. Rose & Irving both scored 12 and the broken record played for Kenneth Faried who was once again dominant with 14 and 11.
“We know they are a tough team. They don’t back down,” Thompson said of Slovenia. “They play physical. It’s a 40-minute game. If it was a 20-minute game, it would be a whole different story. We play good teams, like Slovenia and Lithuania next, we just want to keep pressuring them, keep wearing on them and not give them any easy shots. They got a few tonight, but as long as we keep flying around on defense. We’re more athletic than every team in this tournament, so we have to use that to our advantage.”
