We have been raving about Bucks’ rookie Thon Maker since he was a 19- year-old high school sophomore! Just kidding, he was 16 in the video above…I think. Anyways, I wasn’t too interested in how old the 7-footer was. I was more interested in the idea that he was a point guard stuck in a 7-footers’ body. We have seen him go coast-to-coast and crossover plenty of defenders and I’m not just talking about scrubs.
At the 2015 Las Vegas Fab 48 event, Thon brought the house down when he broke the ankles of Bam Adebayo — Kentucky commit ranked by many as a top 5 player in the class of 2016 — then hit a deep 2.
We also saw him win co-MVP of our Ballislife All-American game and connect on 8 straight 3-pointers in our 3-point shootout, which he placed second in.
I’m sure some doubters are going to say, “that was high school, let’s see him play that way against pros.” Well, he had 15 points, 13 rebounds and a few clutch blocks in his NBA summer league debut and then had 17 points and 17 boards against the D-League Select team a few days later. When asked about playing in the summer league he said, “It’s been like practice.”
It’s going to be fun watching him and the official 7″0 point guard — Giannis The Greek Freak — in Milwaukee this year.
