Jacques Slade took a trip to Wilmington, NC this past weekend to visit “where it all started.”
The “It” i’m referring to is Michael Jordan and where is Laney High School.
It’s at Laney where MJ played baseball, football and was told as a sophomore he couldn’t play on the varsity basketball team because of his height so he was placed on the JV team (he was not cut from the basketball team which is the story most people believe). 1 year and 4 inches later, MJ made the varsity team and as a senior averaged a triple double, became a McDonalds All-American and you pretty much know the rest of the story.
JORDAN’S HIGH SCHOOL GYM GETS A FACELIFT
To celebrate 30 years since Nike signed Laney’s most famous student, Jordan Brand gave The Michael Jordan gymnasium a face lift and provided participants in the annual Fred Lynch Invitational Basketball tournament some new Jordan sneakers.
