Three things I really love seeing in the NBA: When a former Ballislife All-American does something, when a player we covered throughout high school does something and when a fellow FSU Seminole does something. On Monday, I got to celebrate all three when Nuggets rookie Malik Beasley posterized Lakers rookie Ivica Zubac during a blowout out of the Lakers, losers of 10 of their last 11. It was Beas(t)ly’s only field-goal of the game but it was a memorable one.
As for the 19-year old Zubac, he deserves a special shout out for putting up a career-high 25 points on 12 of 15 shooting and grabbing a game-high 11 boards. The 7’1 2nd round pick has been exceptional over the last three games (25, 10, 14) and has shown the potential to not only be a solid big man in this league but a successor to Wilt, Kareem and Shaq! OK, maybe I’m exaggerating a little but I didn’t want to say Bynum and Dwight Howard…even though they were All-Stars. OK, how about the 2nd round pick is already better than former Laker and #1 pick Kwame Brown?
