Some trivia for you. The producers of the film originally wanted mainstream stars Denzel Washington and Keanu Reeves or John Cusack for the main parts.  Denzel wisely passed to do Spike Lee’s Malcolm X film which allowed Spike Lee veteran Wesley Snipes to grab the role.  Due to the lack of basketball skills of the Reeves and Cusack, Snipes friend and co-star from the football film ‘Wildcats.’ Woody Harrelson, was able to audition and won the role
