“I’m finally back and it feels so good,” tweeted Isaiah Thomas after playing his first game with the Cavs and first game since May 19th because of a torn labrum in his hip.
It felt good for Cavs fans too. They gave him a standing ovation as he entered the game with a little more than four minutes left in the opening quarter against the Blazers and gave him another when he checked out in the fourth quarter of the 127-110 win.
“It was a special moment,” Said Thomas, who had 17 points (6-12 FG, 3-8 3PT, 2-4 FT) and 3 assists in 19 minutes. “I haven’t played in a game and you would think I was here for a few years and playing and battling in the Finals with this team. But it was special for my family to be here, my wife and kids to see that, that’s genuine love right there.”
He also thanked Cleveland for all the love with this tweet.
“Cleveland, thank you! Tonight was a very special night for me and y’all made it what it was with the love y’all showed me when I checked in the game. I will always remember tonight. Now let’s keep building, this is only the beginning!”
My personal favorite quote of the night about Thomas came from LeBron.
“What I like most about him is he has a chip on his shoulder for life,” James said. “That’s just who he is. When a guy’s got a chip on his shoulder for life, he’s never going to not work hard. Not going to never give it his all. Not going to never disappoint you.”
