The most consistent issue with a lot of NBA draft suits is how big, baggy and in need of a tailor the off-the-shelf-from-the-big-man-store-suits are. I expect this year’s story to be different as the NBA is now in a very fashion conscious state with players like Westbrook, Wade, Durant and Rose covering many covers and feature stories in men’s fashion magazines.
While we wait to play fashion police at tonight’s draft, let’s take a look back at some of the most memorable hair, outfits, trades, busts and moments of the NBA draft since 1984.
SONIC BUST
Worst draft trade ever? Supersonics trade Pippen (#5 pick) for Olden “impersonating a police officer” Polynice (#8 pick)
RUNNIN REBELS
The UNLV Stars & Coach at the 1991 NBA Draft
THANK YOU VLADE
Lucky for the Lakers, the Bucks wouldn’t trade Marbury to them for Vlade Divac. Instead the Lakers ended up getting Kobe for Divac and if that doesn’t sound like a steal, the original rumor was the Lakers were originally offering Anthony Peeler for Charlotte’s high school kid.
MARBURY FOR JESUS
Less than an hour after shocking the world by drafting Ray Allen, the Twolves traded him to the Bucks for KG’s friend Marbury
BLUE CHIPS
Lucky for Penny he did the movie “Blue Chips” with Shaq. The Magic traded future ROY Chris Webber for Penny.
FUTURE BIG 3 IN MIAMI
Future Miami Heat NBA Champions and Carmelo at the 2003 NBA Draft
76ERS FAILS
Within 30 minutes, the 76ers (with Moses Malone, Dr J & Charles Barkley) traded the #1 pick for Roy Hinson and then traded Moses Malone for Jeff Ruland!
DALLAS BOOS DIRK
The Mavs traded Robert Tractor Traylor (RIP) to the Bucks for Dirk Nowitzki and a lot people actually thought the Mavs were crazy for doing this trade.
