Predicting the NBA Finals winner and the teams to represent the conferences is something we spend a fair amount of time analyzing here at Ballislife. With online sports betting, you can bet on the success of a Western Conference player or team and make some money by focusing on just 15 of the 30 NBA teams.
If you’re interested in learning more about how to win money betting on the Western Conference Finals, continue below.
Before the NBA Finals, there’s a final round in each of the conferences. These final rounds are the Eastern and Western Conference Finals. This best-of-seven series will determine which team will represent the West in the NBA Finals.
Betting on the team that you think will win the Western Conference is something that’s available when the season begins in August and when the Conference Finals end in April.
When the postseason starts, the first six seeds are determined by win/loss record. After that, the No. 7 and No. 8 seed will play to earn the true No. 7 seed and the same goes for the No. 9 and No. 10 seed for the “real” No. 9 seed.
Throughout the season, the only things that’ll change about this betting market are the teams you can bet on and the odds. As the season progresses, the field of teams you’ll be able to bet on shrinks as some teams become irrelevant or are eliminated from postseason contention.
When you look at this betting market in NBA betting sites, you’ll see a list of teams and betting odds associated with them.
This is a bit of a more niche betting market in that you won’t be able to wager on it until the series actually begins. This is because you need to know what teams are actually competing for the Conference Championship to know who to wager on. There will be a list of players with odds.
Whether you want to bet on the Western Conference MVP odds or make Western Conference Finals picks, reading the odds here and other bet types are all the same.
Teams or players with “-” odds are favored and the number indicates how much money you need to wager to win $100. Conversely, teams with “+” odds are the underdog and the number will be how much money you’d win if you wagered $100.
Since numerous teams are still available to bet on when it comes to the Western Conference Finals winner at the time of this writing, we’ll preview the top four teams odds-wise, which are pretty similar across the multiple sports betting platforms.
|Phoenix Suns||The Suns are 3-0 with Kevin Durant in the lineup, and they look like a team that’ll be difficult to stop as they also have Chris Paul, Deandre Ayton, and Devin Booker.|
|Denver Nuggets||Nikola Jokic will win this third straight MVP award while averaging a triple-double. They’re currently the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference and would be the favorite if the Suns didn’t bring in Durant.|
|Golden State Warriors||The Warriors are an excellent offensive unit and are always a threat in the postseason due to their historical success with the same nucleus and other players like Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins when healthy.|
|Dallas Mavericks||The Mavericks are having some difficulties. They’re 5-6 with Kyrie Irving in the lineup, but there’s time for him, Doncic, and the rest of the team to gel. If Doncic gets going, he’s one of the most unstoppable players in the NBA.|
Best Bet: It’s hard to pass up on the Suns, who still have “+” value. This team is potent on the court and on paper.
Like the Suns getting KD, the Mavericks getting Irving, or the Los Angeles Clippers getting Russell Westbrook, these transactions can drastically alter the outlook for a team. Be prepared to bet after these trades and if you can accurately predict where star players will land beforehand.
This is a common NBA betting strategy for a good reason. With the length of the season and even the size of the field, as the regular season comes to a close, you’ll be able to narrow down the field of realistic options to win the Conference and can hedge them. Since 2000, there’s only been one team to win the Western Conference that wasn’t a top-three seed—the 2006 Dallas Mavericks (No. 4 seed).
This could tie into trades or free agent signing too, but if a team is on a tear, winning, for example, eight of its last 10 games, this could be parlayed into immediate postseason success as the momentum is in their favor. A top seed can still get into the NBA playoffs after going on a losing streak, but this poor play could manifest into poor performances.
The Warriors may be third on odds, but due to their playoff experience, it’s impossible to count them out. You shouldn’t ever bet on a team just because of this, but it’s something to strongly consider if the teams are close in expected production.
As you head into the postseason or the regular season is in its final weeks, are there notable injuries to key players on postseason teams? Stay up to do with this because this can be the difference between a good wager and a wasted bet.
