WNBA Odds Guide

Understanding WNBA odds is paramount to having any kind of success when it comes to betting on the sport. With that comes the need for a WNBA betting odds guide to help you navigate what they mean in general and in the context of particular bets.

In the guide below, we’ll explain WNBA lines, the different betting markets for the sport, examples of WNBA betting odds and how to wager them, getting started, and more.

WNBA Lines Explained

WNBA lines and WNBA odds are almost interchangeable terms. Individual NBA sportsbooks offer these WNBA lines for various betting markets, which we’ll cover more in the section directly below.

The lines can change until the game goes live, and these odds change rapidly and often for live betting.

Now, let’s dive into the various betting markets to know.

Note: The WNBA season wasn’t actively going on at the time of this writing. The screenshots below will be from the NBA but are meant to illustrate the various bet types and what they look like. The only odds available were for futures wagers.

WNBA Betting Odds To Know

There are many ways to bet on the WNBA, and understanding those odds and WNBA betting lines are important as they’re slightly different from market to market. Below, we’ll cover them in detail, including examples.

Moneyline

The moneyline is a wager you’ll make for who you think will win the game outright with no strings attached. The odds can vary from game to game and team to team, depending on who’s playing.

Say the Las Vegas Aces are playing the Indiana Fever. Based on their 2022 production, the Fever would be massive underdogs.

  • Aces: -550
  • Fever: +350

With these betting odds, the “-” indicates the favored team, and the “+” is the underdog. It’s best to think about these odds through the lens of betting and winning $100 to make it easier.

For the favored team at -550, you’d need to wager $550 to win $100. For the Fever, you’d win $350 if you bet $100 on them.

Point Spread

The point spread is a number that the online sportsbook generates to make the teams as even as possible, accounting for the strengths and weaknesses.

So, using the Aces and Fever example above, it wouldn’t be unlikely that the Aces would be 10.5-point favorites or more.

The point spread is the same on both sides.

  • Aces: -10.5 (-110)
  • Fever: +10.5 (-110)

At -10.5, the Aces would need to win the game outright and win by at least 11 points to cover the spread. For the Fever, if they won outright, that would suffice, but you can also win the bet even if they lose, so long as it’s not by 11 or more.

The -110 odds are standard for point-spread bets. They’ll always be at or around that, give or take -5 or -15 points in value.

Totals

With totals wagers, you’ll bet on the combined number of points scored in a game. This involves the production of both teams and is an excellent alternative if you don’t have a strong feeling either way, moneyline or point spread-wise.

It wouldn’t be uncommon to see a totals wager that looks like this:

  • Over 143.5 (-110)
  • Under 143.5 (-110)

Like point spread bets, the odds are always right around -110. For totals bets, you’ll wager from an “over/under” perspective, predicting whether the point total will fall short or ascend the line provided.

Futures

With futures betting, you’ll wager on an event that will happen in the future, such as the WNBA Championship winner. There will be odds provided for each team in the league. Depending on the time of year, it’s not uncommon to find all teams to have “+” odds, meaning you can cash in with successful wagers. As the season progresses and the league’s picture becomes clearer, it will change to teams with “-” odds.

Parlays

Parlays allow you to wager on multiple games on one betslip. The catch with parlays is that you need to add at least two games, and whatever you add must win for the parlay to succeed.

Let’s view an example below.

  • Leg 1: Aces -10.5 (-110)
  • Leg 2: Dream +9 (-110)

Using the moneyline logic above, you’d need to wager $110 on each to win $100 each. However, with a parlay, these two -110 lines combine into +264, as it accounts for the risk of needing multiple contests to win.

Now, if you bet $100, you’ll win $264 if both teams win their respective bets.

Same Game Parlays

Same Game Parlays operate the same as a traditional parlay only instead, it focuses on one game.

This could be for the total, moneyline, point spread, or props found in each game. However, you’ll be unable to bet on the moneyline and point spread in a Same Game Parlay.

Props

There are three popular types of prop bets—team, game, and player.

  • Game: Exact correct score of the score.
  • Team: Individual team total points.
  • Player: Points, rebounds, or assists for each player.

With props, you’ll bet through the lens of “over/under.”

For example, if Alysha Clark had a points prop of 9.5, you could bet whether it’ll go over or under.

Live Betting

With live betting, you’re able to bet on a game as it unfolds live. The pregame lines and odds will change rapidly, so you’ll need to think on your feet with this bet type.

Each point scored in the game can alter the betting lines for all betting markets, including props, moneyline, point spread, and totals.

WNBA Draft Betting Odds Explained

Assuming this betting market is available at the online sportsbook you want to play at, you can bet on various props pertaining to the WNBA Draft.

These bets can include any of the following:

  • No. 1 overall pick
  • Over/under on draft position
  • Players drafted from a conference or school
  • Exact draft position

For those that follow women’s college basketball closely, this is a great opportunity to win even more money on the WNBA since, again, depending on the sportsbook, there will be an array of prop bets to choose from to wager on.
