Michigan sportsbooks have been up and running since January 2021, and their popularity has been increasing steadily as more new bettors explore what’s on offer.
We at BallisLife aim to provide you with a resource on all things Michigan sports betting, including recommendations for our top five online sportsbooks in the Great Lake State, the legal process involved, and much more.
Michigan sports betting was legalized in December 2019, and the first retail outlets to launch arrived on March 11, 2020. Online sports betting launched less than a year later, on January 22, 2021. Today, there are more than ten online sportsbooks in the state.
With so many options to choose from, picking a top-tier Michigan sportsbook can be a challenge. There are multiple elements to consider, including bonuses/promotions, mobile app availability, unique features, as well as the overall experience.
Everyone will have their own favorite, so it’s time to take a look at the five sportsbooks we’ve selected for you. We’re confident these are some of the best offerings to be had in the state.
Let’s check them out.
At SI Sportsbook, you’ll have access to a welcome bonus that awards you $200 in bonus bets for simply wagering $20. You’ll need to stake that $20 on your first wager with minimum odds of +120. The minimum odds are a bit higher than we’re used to seeing with “bet & get” offers, but this is more than reasonable given the generous bonus amount.
While SI Sportsbook may have partnered with 888 to bring it to life, it’s still from the Sports Illustrated brand stable. That means you’ll find links to articles directly from SI, which can help inform your Michigan sports betting decisions.
One of our favorite offers was “Perfect 10”, which you can find on the left-hand side of the desktop site. This is a free-to-play game in which you can win a grand prize of $10K for successfully picking 10 games against the spread. If you’re the only player to get them all right, you’ll win the $10K, and if others get all 10 right, you’ll split the winnings.
It’s a great way to test your spread betting skills, but for free!
BetRivers MI offers new players a $500 no-sweat bet when they use the promo code “SPORTS.”
There are no minimum odds requirements for the bet you make using the no-sweat bet, and if you lose, you’ll receive it back in the form of a bonus bet within 24 hours of the wager settling. It’s not the largest no-sweat bet available in the state, but the lack of minimum odds makes it a good deal.
On the right side of the desktop page, BetRivers has a newsfeed that shows winners in real-time. This is a minor feature, sure, but it’s fun to see your name flashing up on the screen when you win.
Known as “House Specials,” these are daily odds boost offers across all sports. There are double-digit offerings each day, including parlay-like bets and more. These provide you with plenty of opportunities to win.
The no-sweat bet welcome bonus at BetMGM offers bonus bets of up to $1,000, but the way it’s paid back to players depends on how much you stake. If the bet you made is less than $50, you’ll get a single bonus bet to use. However, if it’s more than this, you’ll get five bonus bets equal to 20% of the wager to use separately.
The “Easy Parlay” tool is an accessible directory for all available NBA moneylines, point spreads, and totals wagers across all sports with upcoming contests. It makes it completely straightforward to build legs of a parlay and string them together.
If you’re a fan of live-streaming games while you bet, you’ll be interested in BetMGM’s live-streaming service. After signing up for an account and logging in, you’ll see a “Media” tab on the right-hand side of the desktop page. Here, you’ll find a drop-down menu listing all the games you can watch live. These include international games for sports like tennis, cricket, and soccer.
At FanDuel, you can participate in a variety of free-to-play games, including Super Bowl Bingo, Pro Bowl Predictor, and NBA Perfect Picks. This is updated regularly.
It also offers players a “FanDuel Sports Betting 101” resource that you can access on the homepage. This section of the site includes information on reading NBA odds, bet types, betting by sport, and navigating the sportsbook.
While most welcome bonuses are one-time deals, PointsBet’s offer extends across five days. Each day, you’ll receive a $100 no-sweat bet that expires after 24 hours. That means you’ll need to make sure you use the offer each day for five days immediately after you sign up.
One of the most intriguing features at PointsBet is the “Name A Bet” feature, which allows you to pitch a betting idea. You’ll hear back within 24 hours with a price. This allows you to create your own markets at the sportsbook’s discretion.
There’s also PointsBetting, which is a pretty unusual bet type. The way it works, is that your winnings are determined based on how correct you are.
For example, if the total on a basketball game is 200 points and you bet $10 on the over, you’ll get your wager multiplied by the number of points in which you were correct.
So, if the final score is 210 points, you’d get $100 (10 x 10).
Pros - This offer has up to a $1,000 value and is paid out depending on how much you wager. If you put down under $50, you’ll get a single bonus bet, whereas if you go with over $50, you’ll get five bonus bets equal to 20% of the wager.
Cons - Honestly, there aren’t many cons other than that the total value is lower than you’ll find on some other sites in the state, but it’s still a great deal.
Pros - You receive $200 in bonus bets for betting just $20. This is an accessible amount to wager, especially considering the bonus bets you receive back.
Cons - The minimum odds on the $20 bet are +120, which isn’t all that bad, but it’s much higher than we typically see when it comes to minimum odds.
Pros - $1,000 value is generous.
Cons - The percentage match is low at 20%, meaning you need to deposit $5,000 for the full $1,000 bonus. Additionally, you don’t receive the bonus funds immediately; you draw off them in $1 increments per $25 wagered in cash.
Pros - This enormous offer of $3,000 was a promotion for the Super Bowl, so you’ll need to check the site for the latest offer.
Cons - No guarantee it will be repeated.
Pros - The promotion lasts five days, which is a win-win for both the player and PointsBet. You get bonus bets each day, and PointsBet gets increased traffic..
Cons - The value is only $500, which is on the lower end of welcome offers.
The governing body that oversees sports betting in the state is the Michigan Gaming Control Board. It is responsible for issuing sportsbook licenses and ensuring a safe environment for players.
You can visit the Michigan Gaming Control Board site to see an approved list of vendors so that you’re never confused as to whether or not a site is legal and operating in Michigan with a license.

In Michigan, there are numerous professional and college teams. However, as you’ll see with these online sportsbooks, there is a huge variety of sports to bet on as well that may not have Michigan-specific teams.
You’ll be able to wager on the moneyline, point spread, over/under, build parlays, build Same Game Parlays, prop bets, future wagers, and more.
Below is a sample of the sports you can bet on in the Great Lake State. It’s important to remember that college sports betting is completely legal in Michigan, so if that’s what you’re interested in, you’ll have plenty of options.
Partnered with BetMGM, FanDuel, and PointsBet, the Tigers are an MLB team. You can wager on a lot of MLB odds such as the moneyline, over/under, futures, parlays, props, and the run line in the MLB.
The run line is the baseball equivalent of the point spread. However, this is always 1.5 runs, regardless of the matchup. So, unlike other sports where the odds are at or around -110, the odds on the favorite and underdog can vary because 1.5 runs are quite a lot in baseball.
The Lions are an NFL team and are partnered with BetMGM and WynnBET. The NFL season is capped off by the Super Bowl, which has its own set of unique betting options, but through the 17-week regular season and month-long-plus postseason, you can wager on all of the same things as baseball, except instead of the run line you have a point spread.
The Red Wings are an NHL team partnered with DraftKings, FanDuel, and PointsBet. The championship in the NHL is the Stanley Cup Finals, and you can find all the standard bet types for this; the only difference is the point spread is known as the puck line and is always 1.5 goals in either direction.
The NBA team from Michigan and the Pistons have partnerships with BetRivers, DraftKings, PointsBet, and WynnBET. The bet types here are synonymous with the NFL, including the point spread. The championship game in the NBA is the NBA Finals, which can stretch across up to seven games.
Currently, the most successful college football program, the Michigan Wolverines were in the College Football Playoff during the 2022-23 season, losing to the TCU Horned Frogs. The bet types here are the same as in the NFL. Prop bets are available for the NFL Draft, so getting to know the college players is a good idea if you’re thinking of making those wagers.
The interstate rival of the Wolverines, the Spartans are coming off of a 5-7 season in 2022-23 and did not play in a bowl game. In addition to the College Football Playoff, more than 40 bowl games feature college teams with at least six wins.
Upon launching the FanDuel Sportsbook mobile app, you’ll be asked to choose which state you want to play in. After this, you’re brought to the homepage.
At the top of the app, you have links to the online casino, racebook, and daily fantasy sports platforms, with the links to log in/register just below it.
Under this, you’ll see a horizontal menu for the available sports live betting, promos, odds boosts, and more. There’s also a final menu that shows the available promotions and bonuses.
The homepage defaults to the most upcoming and notable games, such as the following slate of NBA games.
Along the bottom of the app are another menu for the homepage, a list of sports, bet slip, online casino, and your account.
Starting at the top of the app, you’ll see the link to log in in the upper right and also an account icon in the upper left. The account icon is clickable and opens a menu for the rewards program, withdrawing/depositing funds, and more.
There are just a few menus to go through before getting to the meat of the homepage, which shows upcoming games, sorted in a menu in order of importance.
However, prior to getting this part of the app, there’s a menu toward the top that links to the sportsbook, Quick Parlay, Social, Pools, and more.
Continuing down, there are two more menus—one for the available promotions and one for the available sports.
Along the bottom of the app is a menu that has links to the homepage, live betting, bet slip, a list of sports, and rewards/promotions.
The BetRivers app starts off similar to FanDuel’s in that you’ll pick which state you want to play in. After this, you’re greeted by an advertisement for the welcome bonuses at the online casino and sportsbook.
There’s a collapsible menu in the upper left that links to the online casino, sportsbook, promotions, rewards, help center, and more.
On the homepage of the app, you’ll see two menus at the top. First, you have one for the search bar, live betting, odds boosts, and available sports. Secondly, you’ll see advertisements for the available promotions/bonuses.
The homepage features the most prevalent and upcoming games, similar to DraftKings or FanDuel.
