Baltimore Ravens Super Bowl Odds Plummet After Cancelling Crosby Trade

You can be forgiven if you have whiplash. The Baltimore Ravens traded for Maxx Crosby last Friday. Tuesday night, like a nervous groom, they backed out of that deal. Only hours later, the Ravens signed free agent defensive end Trey Hendrickson.

All of that movement had consequences: odds on Baltimore to win the next Super Bowl have shifted, at least for now. FanDuel Sportsbook shifted the Ravens from +900 to +1100 on Tuesday after the news that Crosby would not be joining that team. DraftKings still has the team at +900, the same as the Seahawks.

It's possible that FanDuel could adjust its Ravens Super Bowl odds again in light of the Hendrickson signing. The edge rusher will serve in the role that Crosby was meant to: putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks. Whether or not he will be as effective as Crosby is something we'll find out when the NFL returns this fall.

Crosby's health in focus after trade falls apart

The Ravens have been mum on why they backed out of a blockbuster trade that would have sent two first-round picks to the Las Vegas Raiders in the next two years in exchange for Crosby, a five-time Pro Bowler. Per league rules, the Ravens cannot discuss medical issues of a player that is not on their roster.

The Raiders made a pithy announcement that the trade was off on Tuesday. Reporting by Dianna Russini for The Athletic indicates the problem was Crosby's left knee. In January, Crosby underwent surgery to repair the meniscus in that knee. Reportedly, it was expected he would be healed in time for the start of the 2026-27 NFL season.

Will Hendrickson signing change Ravens Super Bowl odds?

On paper, the deal to acquire Hendrickson seems better than the Crosby affair. That's because Baltimore only had to give up cash to get Hendrickson, a free agent. The former Bengal will receive $112 million over four years to harass QB's as a Raven.

But to get Crosby, the Ravens were going to have to send not one, but two first round picks to the Raiders. One pick would have been for the upcoming NFL draft (No. 14 overall), and the other for the 2027 draft. Now, Baltimore has those picks back in its pocket.

So far, odds have not changed for Super Bowl LXI at the best football betting promo apps after Hendrickson was signed. This deal isn't as big a splash headlines-wise as the Crosby transaction. It's possible the Ravens will stick at about +1000 to win the Super Bowl. A winning $100 bet would pay $1100 if new head coach Jesse Minter were to guide the Scary Birds to a title next February.

It can be argued that among the 10 teams with the shortest odds to win Super Bowl 61, according to FanDuel, the Ravens have made the largest wholesale changes this offseason.

Baltimore has a new head coach, new offensive coordinator, new defensive coordinator, and Hendrickson will make the defensive line more dangerous. Whether the coaching changes will lift the Ravens back into the playoffs will be played out on the field.
