We suspect that LeBron James could be resting on Friday night

The veteran scored 33 points and pulled down 17 rebounds in 37 minutes on Thursday in a lackluster win over the Timberwolves. James seemed to tweak his leg or knee late in the fourth quarter.

We can’t be sure King James will be seated on his throne for the Friday game against the Clippers, but we don’t like the chances his high-mileage body can put up a big game or even play tonight.

So what does that have to do with Luka Dončić?

The Slovenian star shot terribly on Thursday against the Grizzlies (shooting 6-of-20 from the field, and missing eight three-pointers).

• He scored 21, and made some impressive passes, but Luka wasn’t stroking the way the Purple & Gold needed him to.

Tonight against the LA Clippers, absent LeBron (or even if LeBron plays and has diminished minutes on a back-to-back), Dončić will take oodles of shots.

That means he will have a chance to put up lots of points, and a bad shooting night doesn’t usually happen two nights in a row for Luka.

In the 17 games since he did not dress on Jan. 17, Gilgeous-Alexander has exceeded 32.5 points seven times

He’s scored 50+ three times for the Oklahoma City Thunder in that stretch. The NBA scoring leader is making an historic three-year run where he’s averaging more than 30 PPG.

Only four NBA players since 1980 have accomplished that. As he enters rarified scoring strata, this season SGA’s efforts could earn him his first NBA Most Valuable Player Award.

In 36 games in the 2024-25 season, Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies has scored 23 or more points 16 times

That means he’s been under 23 in 20 of his games this season. The dynamic guard scored only 10 points in 27 minutes against the Knicks in January.

On Friday, he will square off with New York again, at home. Morant is cooling his heels as he and his team move into the final two months of the regular season.

There is no easy on/off switch, and we're not certain Morant is a big threat to score big against the physical Knicks.

We don’t like the probabilities of Gilgeous-Alexander of Morant scoring on the MORE side of the entries offered from DraftKings Pick6.
