Atlanta Hawks vs NY Knicks

How does the in-season Emirates NBA Cup work? What is the format and how does a team advance and win this event? That’s not always clear, as basketball fans get comfortable with this event. One thing is for certain: both the Hawks and Knicks cannot advance to Las Vegas for the semifinals this weekend. Only one of these teams will emerge from Wednesday’s game with a chance to play for the half a million dollars each player can receive for being champions of the Emirates NBA Cup.

Golden State Warriors vs Houston Rockets

The Dubs have lost six of their last eight games. Is that simply a quirk of the schedule (OKC, Denver, Phoenix, and San Antonio were among those losses), or is it a sign of something more troubling for this team? The end of the Warriors dynasty has been reported for many years, but this group of notable players, led by Steph Curry.

The Warriors defeated the Rockets in overtime earlier this season, but that was back in early November. Since that victory, Houston has been a head-scratching team: beating the Knicks and the Timberwolves, but also losing to the Trail Blazers and Kings. As recently as Dec. 1, the Rockets beat the Thunder. To say the Rockets have been inconsistent is an understatement.

The line is 2.5 points with the Warriors as road favorites for this NBA Cup game. We like Curry & Co. to find a way to win, but we'll go moneyline at +105 as opposed to giving up the points.

NCAA Hoops: Colgate at No. 5 Kentucky

There’s no bluer blueblood program in college basketball than Kentucky. Basketball’s history is intertwined with that state, where hoops is more of a religion than sport. Tonight, the Wildcats are at home to welcome their latest patsy…or opponent…in Colgate.

At first glance this seems like a colossal mismatch. But the Raiders are not as bad as their 2-8 record shows. Colgate has a three-point loss to Northeastern, and a four-point loss to Sam Houston on the ledger this season. Most impressively, on Nov. 12, the Raiders lost by just two points at Syracuse.
