There were some surprising outcomes Tuesday with three ranked college basketball teams going down and several games closer than expected. Will that be the case with today’s schedule? That’s a good question. We’ll explore it and more in our college basketball best bets list.
Our focus will be on several ranked teams, namely No. 20 Clemson and No. 6 UConn. Each is favored, but will each cover? The spread for these games isn’t extraordinary, but that was the case Tuesday as well, with four ranked teams failing to win/cover.

Virginia Tech got out to an 11-2 start before nonconference play got underway. They started their ACC schedule with a 3OT win over then-No. 21 Virginia (95-85). But then they lost two in a row and have gone 4-6 in the ACC since, with losses to No. 23 Louisville (85-71) and No. 4 Duke (72-58).
They last played on Saturday against NC State in Raleigh and lost their second straight. Amani Hansberry leads the way on the scoreboard with 15.2 points per game and on the boards with 8.2 rebounds per game.
As for Clemson, the Tigers looked solid in nonconference play, going 10-3, with two losses coming against ranked teams. But everything appears to have come together in the ACC part of their schedule. They lost to NC State in overtime, 80-76, but that is their only conference loss to date.
They are not the strongest offensive team in college basketball, averaging 76 points per game (No. 185 in the country). Only three players average in double digits, with the team high belonging to RJ Godfrey at 11.9 points per game.
Clemson has gone 11-1 at home this season. Yes, Virginia Tech plays at a brisk pace and has a solid frontcourt, but the Tigers are one of the best defensive teams in the nation. Clemson is not great on the offensive end, but Virginia Tech’s inconsistency on defense and road woes will help the Tigers cover.

UConn may be looking for blood in this game after taking their first conference loss of the season, in their last game Friday night vs. No. 22 St. John’s (81-72). They were tied at the half in that game, but St. John’s took the second half, 42-33, to win by nine. The Huskies will undoubtedly be interested in playing a cleaner game vs. the Bulldogs after St. John’s went 22 for 31 from the free-throw line while they went 5 for 12.
UConn is ninth in the conference and No. 260 in the nation with 18.5 fouls per game.
Butler comes into this contest on a four-game losing streak. With the exception of the double overtime loss to Providence on the road last week, they haven’t been very close. They last played on Saturday and lost to Marquette 70-55.
Butler has shown some promise at times, such as during its recent three-game win streak (Seton Hall, DePaul, and Marquette; Jan. 17-23). But they are out of their depth against UConn. The Huskies are a more talented team with more depth. Yes, Butler averages more points per game than the Huskies, but the UConn defense will shut the Bulldogs down much like they did in the meeting earlier in the season (79-60, UConn on Dec. 16, 2025).
The Bulldogs have never beaten the Huskies, and Wednesday will not be that day.
