The UFC heads back to Atlantic City, New Jersey for the first time since 2018 and they put together a stacked fight night event for the fans. Headlining the fight card are two of the best fighters in the women's flyweight division Erin Blanchfield and Manon Fiorot. We take a look at this main event fight and give out our prediction and pick for this Blanchfield-Fiorot matchup.
Erin Blanchfield (12-1) has taken the UFC's flyweight division by storm rattling off six straight victories, most recently defeating Taila Santos in a hard-fought decision victory. Before that decision victory, she submitted three straight opponents and one of those opponents was former flyweight title challenger and former strawweight champion Jessica Andrade.
Blanchfield may not be the most physically imposing flyweight but she makes up for it with pure grit, determination, and technical abilities. She is by far one of the best grapplers in the flyweight division which she has shown off time and time again during her time in the UFC submitting three of her six opponents inside the Octagon.
While her striking is still a work in progress, her ability to just dominate from top position opens up her striking on the feet. Her path to victory is clear, take down Manon Fiorot, dominate her there, and get the submission.
Manon Fiorot (11-1)Β is riding an 11-fight winning streak coming into this matchup with the aforementioned Erin Blanchfield. She burst onto the scene with a devastating head kick knockout of Victoria Leonardo which put her name on the map as a prospect to look out for. She did one better in her next fight getting the standing TKO victory against short-notice debutant and fan favorite Tabatha Ricci.
Since then she has won four straight fights (6-0 UFC) most recently defeating former strawweight champion Rose Namajunas and two former title challengers Katlyn Cerminara and Jennifer Maia in her last three fights. Fiorot does her best work on the feet where she can utilize her size and length to keep her opponents at the end of her strikes.
She does a great job at mixing up her strikes between her punches and kicks but she is most deadly when she is firing off her leg kicks at range. That's going to be the key for her to keep this fight on the feet and out of the grasp of Blanchfield.
While Blanchfield is certainly the best grappler that Fiorot has faced thus far in her career, Fiorot has shown a good grasp on defending takedowns during her time in the UFC. If she can keep this fight on her feet, it's her fight to lose.
This is your classic striker vs. grappler matchup and this is each of these flyweights first 5-round main event fight. It's hard to know how each of their gas tanks will be in the championship rounds but the way these two fight it would seem that Fiorot would be the fresher fighter as the fight progresses because she's not going to be relentlessly attempting takedowns and having to clinch for the entire fight.
Expect Blanchfield to have some early success with her grappling like she did against Santos but as she starts to get tired that's when Fiorot will take over where she either gets a late finish or coasts to a judge's decision victory.
FINAL BLANCHFIELD-FIOROT PICK & PREDICTION: MANON FIOROT (+154)
