The two-time NBA Most Valuable Player is reportedly being shopped by the Milwaukee Bucks during the league trade window.
The New York Knicks are listed at +360 to acquire Antetokounmpo, according to FanDuel. The Knicks were two wins away from reaching the NBA Finals last season, and are currently in the No. 2 spot in the Eastern Conference.
Odds for which team Giannis Antetokounmpo will be on following the Feb. 5 trade deadline:
FanDuel is offering -125 on Antetokounmpo staying with the Bucks. That means sharp basketball bettors would need to wager $125 to win $100 if he sticks with his current team. As I reported earlier this week, there is a chance the Bucks fail to move their franchise player.
Bettors should note that a wager on this market would be settled at the conclusion of the trade deadline. If the Bucks trade Giannis over the offseason, your betting slip is not valid.
If Giannis is traded, the transaction could dramatically alter odds for an NBA title. The team that gets him will be improved. The Bucks will be swept out of any playoff contention. If Antetokounmpo is sent out of the Eastern Conference, that could shift odds for many teams.
Despite criticism of his lack of shooting range, and minor injuries in recent seasons, Antetokounmpo is still a formidable presence on the court. The NBA has largely become a 3-point shooting contest, but in the grind of a best-of-seven playoff series, the physical presence of a big man, especially one that can get to the rim when healthy, can be a crucial factor.
Antetokounmpo is one of the most decorated players in NBA history: twice the MVP of the league; 9X All-NBA; 5X a member of the NBA's All-Defensive team; a nine-time NBA All-Star; Defensive Player of the Year in 2019-20; MVP of the NBA Finals in 2020-21; MVP of the All-Star Game, a member of the All-Rookie Team; and a member of the NBA's 75th anniversary all-time team.
According to Antetokounmpo and some reports, he will need 3-4 more weeks to recover from a leg injury. That would mean his return could coincide with the final push of the regular season and the start of the playoffs. The 31-year old is averaging 30 points and 10 rebounds in 30 games this season. His career numbers are 24 PPG, 9.p RPG, and 5 assists per game.
In an appearance with Ernie Johnson on ESPN's Tip-Off show Wednesday, NBA reporter Shams Charania explained that the Bucks are fielding several offers for the two-time MVP center.
