The future of Giannis Antetokounmpo with the Milwaukee Bucks has become one of the biggest storylines of the NBA offseason. After another early playoff exit and the news that co-star Damian Lillard could miss the entire 2025–26 season with an Achilles injury, speculation has intensified about whether the Bucks will retain their franchise centerpiece or if a trade could be on the horizon.
Oddsmakers, including FanDuel Sportsbook, have responded to the uncertainty by posting odds on which team Antetokounmpo will suit up for at the start of the 2025–26 season. The Bucks have consistently been listed as the favorites to retain the two-time MVP, but their odds have fluctuated as rumors and reports have surfaced.

Last week, the Milwaukee Bucks were favored to keep Antetokounmpo, but were listed at just +110 odds — barely ahead of a chasing pack led by the San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets, and Toronto Raptors. The race for Giannis was seen as wide open, and the betting market reflected genuine uncertainty about Milwaukee’s ability to keep its franchise star.
There has been a significant shift toward Milwaukee in the market. As of Monday, June 9, FanDuel lists the Bucks as -250 favorites to have Antetokounmpo on the roster next season, an implied probability of 71.4 percent.
Other contenders have seen their odds drift sharply. The Spurs, who were previously +470, are now listed at +1000. The Rockets have dropped from +800 to +1500. The Raptors and New York Knicks are the only other teams with odds shorter than 20/1, listed at +1200 and +1500, respectively.
The sudden market movement likely stems from recent reporting suggesting that teams are no longer as confident about pursuing a deal. Several factors are working in Milwaukee’s favor as it looks to keep Antetokounmpo, especially if he does not formally request a trade.
First, he remains one of the most valuable players in franchise history and a global face of the NBA. Trading him would not allow the Bucks to fully replenish their depleted draft capital, as their picks are spread across multiple teams. Executing a complete rebuild under those circumstances would be difficult, leaving the organization without a clear path forward.
Second, Antetokounmpo is still performing at an MVP-caliber level. The 30-year-old delivered another dominant campaign in 2024–25, averaging 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 6.5 assists across 67 regular-season games. He ranked among the league leaders in each of those categories while adding nearly a block and a steal per contest, shooting an ultra-efficient 60.1 percent from the field.
His impact extended into the postseason, where he elevated his game even further. Over five playoff appearances, Antetokounmpo averaged 33.0 points, 15.4 rebounds, and 6.6 assists per game, carrying an injury-depleted Bucks squad. It marked the third time in his career that he had averaged at least 30 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists in a season, surpassing NBA legends Wilt Chamberlain and Oscar Robertson for the most such seasons in league history.
Third, the Bucks could still compete in what is shaping up to be a weaker Eastern Conference in the 2025–26 season. Even with Lillard sidelined, Milwaukee could remain in the playoff mix with Antetokounmpo leading the way, preserving the team’s relevance and ability to sell hope to its fan base.
Finally, retaining Antetokounmpo would allow Milwaukee to make one more run with the Giannis-Lillard pairing in the 2026–27 season once Lillard returns. With Antetokounmpo under contract through at least 2027, the franchise is under no obligation to move quickly unless the player forces the issue.
The Bucks' implied probability of retaining Antetokounmpo has jumped from 47.6 percent to 71.4 percent in a matter of days — a dramatic shift that underscores how much sentiment around the league and in the betting market has changed.
This will remain a market worth watching closely throughout the summer, as any new reports or public comments could send prices moving once again. The Bucks are currently listed at +6000 to win the 2025–26 NBA title, a number that could shorten if confidence continues to build that Antetokounmpo will remain with the team.
For now, the betting markets are signaling that a trade involving Antetokounmpo appears far less likely than it did just a week ago.
