There's nothing like some midweek European soccer to fill your afternoon. The Tuesday and Wednesday soccer slates are jam-packed with lower-league European action, as well as loads of Cup games from the dozens of different leagues you can find in play over the next 48 hours. I dug deep to find some of the bets that I think are surefire winners. So, as always let's dig in.
This England League One matchup between second-place Derby County and Charlton Athletic looks to be a good one for bettors. We have two teams headed in very different directions. One is tough at the back and hungry up front and the other, well isn't.
Derby County currently sits in second place in League One and for good reason. They have won nine out of their 16 home games losing just three, and drawing the other four.
In addition, they have also scored over 1.5 team goals in nine out of the last 12 home games that they have played.
They have also only allowed one opponent to score more than one goal on their home field all season long. That's right across 16 games they have only allowed more than one goal to one team. So against a 20th-ranked Charlton Athletic team, they hope to have the same outcome.
This Charlton Athletic team has only won one away game all season long. That means their away record is an ugly 1-7-8. They've also allowed their opponent to score over 1.5 team goals in nine out of those 16 games.
This is a struggling team that has really only played well against the lesser teams in the League One division.
This Derby County team wants to be in first place and will relish the chance of picking on a weaker team. Take Derby to smash Charlton on Tuesday afternoon.
When Blackburn and Newcastle are involved in matches we tend to see a lot of goals. And seeing four goals scored when the two teams lock horns at Ewood Park is a real possibility. The Blackburn Rovers have seen Both Teams To Score Yes, hit in each of their last nine home matches.
That run includes a 5-2 win over Cambridge and a 4-1 thumping of Wrexham during their current cup run. Meanwhile, each of Newcastle’s last five games has featured at least four goals, and they have scored in their last 10 matches.
Those 10 matches have only included two clean sheets demonstrating just how leaky this Premier League side is at the back.
Blackburn has only won once in their last six matches since guaranteeing their spot in the fifth round of this FA Cup tournament. In a high-scoring game, the Rovers could be in trouble.
Newcastle’s Premier League quality should ultimately shine through and while I see Blackburn getting on board, Newcastle should be able to score more.
Eddie Howe’s side has scored three goals in three of their last five road games, an achievable total if you ask me. Take Newcastle to win a high-scoring affair between these two teams.
