The Dodgers and Blue Jays complete their three-game series with an afternoon game today. The Dodgers won the first two games by a combined score of 18-3.
Shohei Ohtani will be filling two jobs today: starting pitcher and starting slugger. Yes, there will be a delay between the top of the first and the bottom of the first inning, as Ohtani gets a little more time to transition from batter to flamethrower. That amazing versatility is why Shohei is must-see TV.

Want more proof that Shohei Ohtani is the greatest athlete in the world, and baseball's brightest star?
The longest current on-base streak in MLB is 42 games. The longest current scoreless streak by a pitcher is 22 2/3 innings. Both of those streaks are held by Ohtani.
Tonight, Shohei will be using his batting swing and his pitching shoulder to combat the Blue Jays. It's LA vs. Canada. It's the Dodgers vs. the Blue Jays. And, it's déjà vu all over again as the Jays face the same man who was on the mound for these Dodgers last Nov. 1 in Game 7 of the World Series.
The Jays scored three runs of Ohtani in Game 7, all of them on one swing from Bo Bichette. That bat isn't on the Toronto roster any more. And so far in this interleague series, the Dodgers have limited the Blue Jays to three runs. Perhaps more alarming for Canadian baseball rooters: Toronto has scored only six runs in its last four games.
I'll make my pitching prop pick first for Shohei. I'm going with strikeouts.
I sort of cheated: this is not a singular betting odds pick on Ohtani. I like Dylan Cease, the Toronto starting pitcher, to get to 3 K's before the Dodger megastar.
Cease was not a member of the Blue Jays last season. This is his first foray into the TOR/LA rivalry, if you will. He's pitching in front of the Toronto fans, and his adrenaline will be high. He struck out 12 in his other start on Toronto's home field.
Wager $65 to win $25. The last four bets I've made on short odds (safe betting odds) are 4-for-4 winners. You won't win much, but you'll seed your future betting.

FanDuel prices Ohtani at +225 to hit a home run today against the Blue Jays. He has two HR in his last three games, and three HR in his last five. The Japanese slugger has been in the zone: he's reached base at least twice in each of his last five games.
But, the Blue Jays are pitching Ohtani carefully. He's on pace for a career-high in bases on balls. That's practically a lock: his best is 109, recorded in 2025. It feels like Ohtani is now in the late Barry Bonds era of his career: when pitchers get to a two-ball count against him, they stay away, and would rather walk him than send a pitch across the plate. I'd expect 125+ walks this season for the Dodgers' designated hitter.
I don't like the +225 odds for a Shohei home run. Instead, I'll stick my head into the parlay market. I don't always play parlays, but when I do, I usually find interesting ones at DraftKings. How about this one, baseball fans?
Odds from DraftKings sports betting app are +1200. A winning $20 bet would return $240 plus your stake.
Ohtani is 8-for-22 (.364) with 2 HR against Dylan Cease.
If you want a simple prop bet on Ohtani from the hitting side:
Your winning bet of $100 would win $405. Or wager $10 and win $40.50, enough to grab dinner for two at Chipotle.
It will be a Dodger sweep this afternoon up north in Canada. The Dodgers are humming: baseball's best record at 9-2, and an amazing 72-37 run differential. That's +35 runs in only 11 games.
Ohtani famously sets a lofty goal every season. With the Angels years ago he set the goal to win his first MVP. A season later he wanted to lead the league in strikeouts. In his first season as a Dodger, Shohei made it a goal to become baseball's first 50/50 player. He set a goal to be an MVP last season as a pitcher/DH. Usually, he achieves the goals. This year, it feels like the right-hander has set a goal to win the NL Cy Young Award.
In order to win the Cy Young in a six-man starting rotation, Ohtani will need to put up a glimmering ERA and great strikeout rate. So far, he's allowed zero runs. His slider is elite, and his high heater has the ninth-best swing-and-miss rate in MLB.
I suspect Ohtani will handle the Jays' struggling lineup today, and I see another multi-run win for Dave Roberts and the Dodgers.
