How about we PLAY BALL!?
That's right, the Major League Baseball regular season is here. The first MLB Opening Day game will take place Wednesday night between the New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants.

It seems like the final out of the dramatic 2025 World Series was recorded only yesterday. Maybe because Game 7 went into nail-biting extra innings in November. The offseason was shorter than ever before. Only 143 days have passed since the Dodgers finished off the pesky Blue Jays to win the Fall Classic. Tonight, the 2026 MLB season starts with an interleague matchup between coasts: east and west.
For the first time, MLB's opening game will be seen on Netflix, as the Yankees square off against the Giants at Oracle Park in San Francisco.

The Yankees and Giants are sending a pair of All-Stars to the mound for Game 1 of the 2,430 that will be played this season.
Remember the 2025 Yankees? That team which lost in the AL Division Series to the Jays after scoring two runs or less in two of their losses? Well, if you liked that team, you'll like the 2026 Yankees. Because it's basically the same team.
Aaron Judge, the two-time AL Most Valuable Player and odds favorite to win it again, is back near the top of the lineup. Jazz Chisholm is apparently going to get 500 PA as a second baseman. Trent Grisham, Ben Rice, and Giancarlo Stanton are back with their power bats.
Power is the operative word for the Yankees: the team smacked 274 home runs last season. Only once has that total been surpassed in franchise history, in 2019. Not coincidentally, the Yankees were also eliminated in the playoffs that season before getting to the World Series.
How many years can the Yanks build a team around the modern Paul Bunyan and the Bunyanettes, hoping to out-homer every opponent? The tactic does not work. But here general manager Brian Cashman and manager Aaron Boone are with the same cards, same card table, same snacks they had at the last poker party.
I would highlight big changes for the Yanks here normally, but there's nothing important to note. If the team decides to give Jasson Domínguez a job again in 2026 that would be something new. But Domínguez isn't going to make the Yankees good at scoring runs in the postseason.

Two new arms are in the rotation: Adrian Houser and Tyler Mahle. Both are nice pickups to add depth and reliability to the five-man group. On the offensive side, straightaway you'll see something fresh when the G-Men come to bat in the first inning: leadoff man Luis Arraez, a three-time batting champion.
The Giants also now have DH Will Brennan and much-traveled center fielder Harrison Bader. In "Harry" the Giants have a jack of all trades, mediocre at all of them. Bader looks like he should be a star. He acts like he's a star. But he's not even a moon. Bader will fit between Jung Hoo Lee in right and Heliot Ramos in left. That outfield, plus Patrick Bailey, Matt Chapman, and Willy Adames will provide stable run-scoring for San Francisco.
The Giants have about 10 games to make up to get themselves into playoff position. They don't have to win the NL West. They won't win the NL West. That's something the Dodgers do out of habit. But all the Giants need is a few more wins from their rotation additions, and a few more from the new bats in their lineup. Plus added production from the bench, which is largely the same as in 2025.

The most common odds for baseball betting.
Pick the winning team. This selection is accompanied by American Odds, such as +135 for an underdog or -110 for a favorite.
Run lines are almost always set to 1.5 runs for MLB games. This operates like a point spread for NFL betting: pick a team to either get runs (+1.56) or give runs (-1.5). Which team wins does not matter.
Set to a total of runs for both teams combined. For example: O/U 7.5 Runs means you bet on whether the combined run total will be over 7.5 (8+) or under 7.5 (7 or less). You'll have American odds with this market.
Any betting odds attached to the game. The odds listed above are all game-level prop bets. Other examples are:
These types of bets are based on the performance of individual players. For example, here are many available for the NYY at SFG game via FanDuel for tonight, March 25:
Under that last example, if you wagered $100 and Arraez did have at least three hits, you would win $860 plus your stake.
