It was a wild MLS season debut. This week one review and week two bets to make now are as important as ever, so you can get ahead of the rest of the soccer bettors out there. Week one was a tough reminder for some teams that winning on the road in the MLS is one of the most difficult parts of being in the league.
We also learned that CONCACAF teams struggled mightily in their Week One debuts. So, as always letβs dig into this Week one review and week two bets to make now.
Seven draws. Yes, I said seven draws to start the MLS season including three 0-0 draws. Those scoreless draws included teams who were expected to be offensive juggernauts this season. Teams like Orlando City and Cincinnati FC were big letdowns.
They took on two lesser teams, Toronto FC and CF Montreal. Orlando City and Cincinnati should have dominated these games but didnβt and ended up in scoreless draws.
The CONCACAF Champions Cup is in full swing as the MLS started this past weekend. Seven MLS teams participated in the tournament. Six out of the seven teams won their matches with the seventh (Vancouver) drawing versus Tigres UANL.
The other six teams, favorites in the MLS, Philadelphia, St. Louis City, New England, Orlando City, Cincinnati, and Nashville all won their CONCACAF matches handily. Then not a single one won their Week One MLS match.
Early in the season fitness can be a struggle. Donβt get me wrong, these guys are all in peak shape but game fitness and readiness are much different than practice.
It can take a game or two for some of the players to get a feel for the in-game speed and it really showed in some of these games.
While I expect a bounce back from all of these teams in Week Two it was a tough Week One for some MLS bettors.

Both of these teams lost their Week One matchups. Seattle took on Cup favorites LAFC while Austin FC lost to Minnesota United. Both of these teams are expected to be headed in different directions this season with Seattle having high hopes of a deep playoff run.
Seattle is the home team in this match and if we learned anything from Week One in the MLS itβs that traveling teams are going to struggle again this season.
Seattle has the skill, hunger, and home advantage to take care of this Austin FC team.
The New England Revolution is another team entering the 2024 MLS season with high hopes. After the dramatic departure of Head Coach Bruce Arena, the team looked to be in turmoil but seemed to have found some sense of stability with new Head Coach Caleb Porter.
I get that this Revolution team lost 3-1 in week one to D.C United but a red card in the first 25 minutes of that game impacted the outcome.
Toronto FC is expected to be a mediocre team this season and their Week One performance definitely showed what we can expect from the team and I believe this Revolution team will want to bounce back and perform in front of their home crowd. Take the Revolution to have a great Week Two bounce back.
