cover the spread?
There is no sugarcoating it: the Washington Mystics is one of the worst teams in the league as evident from their 4-13 (win-loss) record. But if there is one thing punters can trust about the Mystics this season is they actually fight for your dough.
- Throughout 17 games this season, the Mystics are 10-6-1 ATS (against-the-spread). They are also above .500 at home at 5-3 ATS.
What’s even more encouraging for Mystics bettors is that Connecticut is among the worst ATS teams in the Eastern Conference.
- The Connecticut Sun is 7-9 ATS overall and 3-4 ATS on the road.
While their head-to-head record is not encouraging, the Mystics have managed to keep their games close against the Sun losing by an average margin of 8.2 points in their six previous meetings.
But for the Mystics to give themselves a chance against the powerhouse Connecticut squad, they will most likely need agile center Stefanie Dolson to continue her stellar play.

While those numbers aren’t bad, she will need to step up against a potent Sun team, who currently ranks fourth in the league in field goal percentage.

On paper, the Connecticut Sun is better than the Washington Mystics. In fact, they have beaten the Mystics twice this season, with the last win being a 76-59 massacre of the latter. I
- n their last match-up, the Sun just ran through the Mystics in the third outscoring Washington 26-10 en route to their biggest win of the season.
- Versatile shooting guard DeWanna Bonner led all scorers in that game with 20 points while Brionna Jones and Tyasha Harris added 15 and 14 markers respectively for the Sun to improve their record to 9-0.
Ever since that win though, the Sun has been playing mediocre basketball, winning just four of their last seven outings. Considering their history against the Mystics, the Connecticut Sun is in prime position to return to the win column and keep the second spot in the standings.
They will once again be relying on the offensive display of the 36-year old Bonner who has led the team in scoring in nine of Connecticut’s 16 games this season.
Also expected to carry the offensive load for the Sun is forward Alyssa Thomas, who has been filling the stat sheet this season.
- Throughout 16 outings, the 32-year old Thomas has been averaging 13.7 ppg, 9.6 rpg, and 7.7 apg.

The Connecticut Sun has been pretty dominant against the Washington Mystics in their past five matches, beating the latter by an average margin of 8.6 points.
- So, naturally going for the Sun to cover the spread is something one would consider.
Under different circumstances, it does make sense but the Mystics are playing at home and currently in a two-game winning streak. If that’s not bad enough, the Connecticut Sun is coming off a gut-wrenching defeat in their last game.
- Oh and lest we forget, the Mystics are among the best ATS teams in the league.
While Connecticut should win considering the talent on their roster, picking them outright to dismantle the Mystics offers no value at these current odds.
- That is why I am leaning towards placing a small punt on the over in this game, especially with the current form of both teams heading into the match.
One thing worth noting is that both teams reached over 160 points in three of their past five matchups. Although both teams only managed to reach a total of 135 points in their previous match, the current win streak and the crowd should propel the Mystics to keep the game close and make this a high-scoring affair.
