The Boston Celtics gun for their third straight win while the Milwaukee Bucks hope to return to the win column as they collide this Friday at the TD Garden.
Boston heads into this matchup following a 130-120 victory over the Detroit Pistons while Milwaukee enters this matchup after dropping a 119-104 decision to the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday.
Will the Bucks cover the spread and return to the win column or will the Celtics complete the season sweep of the former?
As of press time, here’s how the current Boston Celtics vs Milwaukee Bucks betting lines look in this blockbuster Eastern Conference matchup that could potentially be decided in the waning seconds.
Moneyline
Playing without superstar Jayson Tatum and guard Jrue Holiday, the Boston Celtics used a collective team effort to beat the Detroit Pistons 130-120 and score its third straight win.
Six Celtics players hit the double digit mark versus Detroit with Jaylen Brown leading the way with 28 points, nine assists, and six rebounds and Kristaps Porzingis adding 26 points and nine rebounds.
Tatum and Holiday are still listed as day-to-day but they are expected to suit up against the Milwaukee Bucks next and their return could play a major factor in helping the Celtics cover the spread here.
Even more impressive is the fact that the Celtics beat the Bucks twice this season with the absence of Porzingis.
With Porzingis settling in nicely since his return, the Celtics will now have someone to try and contain Giannis Antetokounmpo who has been a monster in their two matchups this season, averaging 36.5 points.
All things considered, there might be value towards backing the Celtics to cover the spread against the Bucks, especially with the team in full force and playing in front of their cheering fans.
The Milwaukee Bucks were playing their absolute best basketball of the season until Wednesday when they lost to the Atlanta Hawks.
Prior to the loss against the Hawks, Milwaukee was riding high, recording eight straight wins thanks to the offensive explosion of franchise superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo who is currently having the best scoring year of his career.
Antetokounmpo is expected to carry the offensive load for the Bucks again as they battle the Boston Celtics next.
With Antetokounmpo seemingly able to deliver against the potent Celtics defense, the onus is now on his teammates, particularly Brook Lopez to deliver and impose his presence inside.
In two games versus the Celtics this season, Lopez was only limited to 9.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists and what’s even worse is he only made 34.5% of his attempts from the field in those matchups.
Besides Lopez, Milwaukee will also need All-Star Damian Lillard to show up here to cover the spread. It can be recalled that Lillard was only held to 14 points on one-for-eight shooting from the three-point area against the Celtics earlier this month.
Should Lillard and Lopez step up and the Bucks get the same offensive production from Antetokounmpo, backing the road team to cover the spread and potentially win outright might be a good play for punters looking for an angle on the underdog.
The Milwaukee Bucks certainly have a case of pulling off an upset, especially with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard always prime for hot shooting nights.
However, the Boston Celtics are just on a different stratosphere right now and they’ve turned it up another notch with the return of Kristaps Porzingis.
Considering the talent level and form of both teams, I am going out of the limb and picking the Celtics to cover the spread and secure its fourth consecutive win.
