The Utah Jazz hopes to close out its two-game homestand on a high note when it takes on the Dallas Mavericks in the lone NBA game thisThursday at the Delta Center.
Both teams are coming off heartbreaking losses on Tuesday’s Emirates NBA Cup action with the Jazz falling to the Phoenix Suns 120-112 and the Mavericks dropping a close one to the Golden State Warriors.
Will the Jazz exact revenge or will the Mavericks snap a three-game losing skid to return to its winning ways? Here’s how the current Utah Jazz vs Dallas Mavericks betting lines look as we head into this pivotal Western Conference matchup.
Over/Under (Total)
The Utah Jazz recorded its eighth loss in 10 games after losing to the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday 120-112 to further drop into the 15th spot in the Western Conference standings.
But if there is something to be optimistic for Jazz bettors is they did not go down without a fight, cutting the deficit to six with 10:18 left after being down by double digits much of the game.
Rebounding, however, was a cause for concern for the Jazz as they found themselves out-rebounded by a short-handed Suns team, who were without Kevin Durant.
This is something unusual for Utah, considering that they are the ninth-best team in the league as far as rebounds are concerned, averaging 45.7 boards per game.
Should the Jazz want to cover the spread against the Dallas Mavericks here, they will need to dominate the boards to create more cracks at the basket.
With the Mavericks missing forward PJ Washington who accounts for 7.7 of the 44.2 average total rebounds, Utah should be able to impose its presence down low and possibly cover the spread which is a good play at these current odds.
Nothing is more disappointing than overcoming a deficit but failing to get the win. The Dallas Mavericks endured that in Tuesday's NBA Cup game against the Golden State Warriors.
Down 96-89 heading into the fourth, the Mavericks ignited a 23-9 run to start the fourth and take a commanding 112-105 lead with 4:38 to go. However, the Warriors were able to respond with a 15-5 blast to pick up the victory and hand Dallas its third consecutive loss.
The Mavericks will look to end their road trip on a strong note and fortunately, they are taking on a team they are all too familiar with – the Utah Jazz.
One thing that Dallas needs to cover the spread here against the Jazz is Luka Doncic. The 25-year old Slovenian court general was only limited to 15 points on 22.7% shooting from the field the last time he played against Utah.
Should the team get similar offensive outputs from Doncic, Thompson, and Irving, it’s hard not to see the Mavericks cover the spread, especially with the level of talent in the Big D.
Wins have been hard to come by for the Utah Jazz while the Dallas Mavericks are not certainly the team you can count on to cover the spread as evident by their ATS record.
Gun to my head, I would pick the Mavericks but considering their form, I am more confident on picking the under total here at -110.
The Jazz is currently the worst scoring team in the league, averaging 105 points per game while the Mavericks, although decent in scoring, are below par in three-point shooting percentage, ranking 21st in the league at 34.8%.
If that’s not good enough, the under hit in five of their previous nine regular season matchups and seven out of their total 10 past encounters.
