Today’s NBA Betting Picks: San Antonio Spurs vs Milwaukee Bucks Lines and Best Bets on January 31

Publish Date: 01/31/2025
Fact checked by: Sara Jane Gamelli

The San Antonio Spurs and the Milwaukee Bucks hope to return to the win column as they cross paths this Friday at the AT&T Center.

“San Antonio suffered its second loss in a row after falling to the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday 128-116 while Milwaukee succumbed to the Portland Trail Blazers 125-112 to lose their second game of their current road trip.”

  • This will be the second and final matchup between the Spurs and Bucks this season, with the latter scoring a dominant 121-105 victory earlier this month.
  • As a result, former two-time league Most Valuable Player (MVP) Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks heads into this matchup versus the Spurs as the slight 2.5-point favorites according to the latest San Antonio Spurs vs Milwaukee Bucks betting lines.
  • It is, however, worth noting that the Spurs have been tough to beat in front of their adoring fans, having covered the spread 10 times in 23 home games this season.

Will the Spurs avenge their loss and snap their two-game losing skid or will the Bucks sweep the season series and bounce back in style?

Keep scrolling as we take an in-depth look of how both teams would fare with one another in this comprehensive San Antonio Spurs vs Milwaukee Bucks sports betting predictions article.

Best NBA odds for San Antonio Spurs vs Milwaukee Bucks

  • The San Antonio Spurs have covered the spread 10 times in 24 home games this season. The best San Antonio Spurs odds for the home team to cover the spread are available on BetMGM for a solid price of -105
  • The Milwaukee Bucks beat the San Antonio Spurs by double digits earlier this season. DraftKings offers the best odds for the Bucks to cover the spread at -112.
  • A low-scoring affair is usually on the cards when the San Antonio Spurs and the Milwaukee Bucks clash with the under total hitting four times in their previous six encounters. The best San Antonio Spurs vs Milwaukee Bucks odds for the under total are available on Caesars Sportsbook at -105.

Why will the San Antonio Spurs cover the spread?

The San Antonio Spurs dropped its second game in a row on Wednesday after losing to the Los Angeles Clippers 128-116.

It does not get any easier for the Spurs next as they take on the Milwaukee Bucks – a team that beat them by double digits earlier this month.

But if there’s one thing that San Antonio can feel good about heading into this matchup with Milwaukee, it’s the return to form of franchise superstar Victor Wembanyama.

  • After being held to just 10 points versus the Bucks in their first encounter, the 21-year French unicorn has upped his numbers to 24.3 points, 11.7 rebounds, four assists, and three blocks on 51.9% shooting from the field.
  • Other than Wembanyama, the Spurs will also be glad to know that rookie guard Stephon Castle has acclimated in the hustle and bustle of the league as evident by his 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and three assists average in the past two games.

With Wembanyama and Castle on fire, there could be value towards backing the Spurs to cover the spread at home versus the Bucks at underdog odds.

  • It is worth noting that the Spurs’ defense held up versus the Bucks earlier this season, having recorded eight steals and five blocks while forcing their opponents to commit 10 turnovers.

For the Spurs to cover the spread, however, they would need to improve their play in the rebounding department. Against Milwaukee last time, San Antonio found themselves on the losing end of the rebounding battle and even worse is they allowed their opponents to get 10 second chance opportunities.

Why will the Milwaukee Bucks cover the spread?

The Milwaukee Bucks have been struggling to keep it all together during this road trip, having lost two of their first three games with the latest being a 125-112 defeat to the Portland Trail Blazers.

Milwaukee looks to end their road trip on a strong note as they clash with the San Antonio Spurs and considering the manner that they’ve beaten this team earlier this month, they might have a chance of doing such a thing.

  • It can be recalled that the Bucks outlasted the Spurs earlier this month thanks to stellar efforts from Damian Lillard, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Brook Lopez who tallied, 26, 25, and 22 points respectively.
  • The 30-year old Antetokounmpo, however, has stepped his game up as of late, averaging 36.7 points, 14.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists on an impressive 65% shooting from the field.
  • If that’s not good enough, the Bucks have also shown some resilience on the road this season, having covered the spread 10 times in 21 games away from home.

One thing we’d like to see the Bucks do here though is impose its presence down low and win the rebounding battle. Against the Trail Blazers, Milwaukee was out-rebounded 52-36 and what’s even more frustrating was they allowed their opponents 17 second chance opportunities.

A terrible shooting downtown also didn’t help Milwaukee’s cause as they only converted 11 of their 35 attempts from rainbow country, good for a measly 31.4% shooting percentage.

Should the Bucks address their issues on the boards and their shooting woes, backing them to cover the spread versus the Spurs is a no-brainer at -112..

Final San Antonio Spurs vs Milwaukee Bucks NBA Prediction: Milwaukee Bucks

With versatile center Victor Wembanyama back in his usual form, the San Antonio Spurs are always a live underdog at home against any team in the league. However, I am going with experience and picking the Milwaukee Bucks to end their losing skid.

Considering that Giannis Antetokounmpo has been tough to stop in the past three games and the recent history of the Bucks versus the Spurs, I am far more confident in picking the favorite to return to the win column in style here. Give me the Bucks to cover the spread.
