The days of the regular season are dwindling as the NBA .quickly approaches the postseason. The Play-In Tournament seems like a distinct possibility for the Sacramento Kings, who host the listless Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night.

The Nuggets are 3-0 against Sacramento this season, including a one-point squeaker in the Central Valley last December.
Not only did the team dump Malone, who led the Nuggets to the 2023 NBA title, they exiled general manager Calvin Booth.
But even with the NBA world .shocked at the double-axing of the Denver brain trust, the Nuggets still have something no other team has: three-time NBA Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokić. The Nuggets' big man is the only NBA player to record 30+ points, 20+ rebounds, and 20+ assists in a single game.
The Joker may not be able to carry his teammates to the NBA Finals, but he can rally them in the final days of the regular season.
It's possible Joker and the Nuggets could slide into that slot and find a more advantageous position in the playoffs. But a win tonight would almost be requisite for that to happen.
PICK: Nuggets +3 at -110, with a winning $110 wager worth $100.
The Kings' small forward is stepping into the breach as a scoring leader for his team down the stretch. The 35-year old has 24 field goals in his last two games, 17 of them from in the paint.
The Nuggets will need to put one, maybe two bodies on him tonight. Even if he gets double-teamed, DeRozan will "get his" against Denver. Expect at least 25 points. If he does, your $100 bet will win another $100.
PICK: $100 at +100 for DeRozan to score 25 or more points, to deliver $200 including stake
Averages can be tricky: Gordon is averaging 16.7 PPG in his last three games. But, he only scored five last time out on Sunday against Indiana.
Gordon matches up fine with the Kings: he scored 24 the last time these teams met in Sacramento, on Dec. 16.
Porter Jr. averages 6.3 three-point shots per game. But he hoisted 8.2 per game over his last five games for Denver. The Kings surrender the highest shooting percentage from three in the NBA.
If Michael Porter Jr. makes more than three threes ND teammate Gordon scores at least 15 points, your $100 bet will win a whopping $325.
PICK: +325, $100 bet wins you $325
This game, with its postseason implications, is going to be seen on national television on Wednesday night.
The NBA Play-In Tournament adds excitement to the final stretch of the regular season, giving more teams a shot at making the playoffs. The teams that finish seventh through tenth in each conference compete in the Play-In for the final two playoff spots.
The loser then plays the winner of the No. 9 vs. No. 10 game for the No. 8 seed. It’s a high-stakes, win-or-go-home setup—especially for the lower seeds, who must win twice to advance.
This season, one of those teams could be the Kings. If Sacramento is to be kings instead of jesters when it comes to the NBA Play-In, they'll need to win a few games down the stretch.
With just a few games left in the regular season, five teams—the Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers, Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Memphis Grizzlies—are all tied in the loss column, battling for seeds No. 4 through No. 8.
The two teams among this group that finish with the worst records will fall into the Play-In Tournament as the No. 7 and No. 8 seeds.
That makes every remaining game critical, with even a single loss potentially meaning a dangerous play-in path.
Meanwhile, Sacramento and Dallas are currently holding the No. 9 and No. 10 spots, respectively, with a bit of cushion. Sacramento still has a chance to stay at No. 9, but if they slip to No. 10, they'd need to win two straight games just to qualify for the postseason.
In a tight Western Conference, the Play-In Tournament is shaping up to be dramatic and unpredictable.
