An explosive matchup between the league’s top teams is on tap when the second-seed Golden State Warriors host conference leaders Oklahoma City Thunder this Wednesday at the Chase Center.
Oklahoma City reclaimed the lead in the Western Conference standings following a 130-109 road win over the Sacramento Kings and Golden State's 128-120 loss against the Brooklyn Nets on Monday.
Will the Warriors snap their two-game losing skid and return to its winning ways or will versatile guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder tighten its hold on the top spot in the West?
Let’s find out how both teams look in this blockbuster matchup that could potentially end up in the waning seconds of the game.
The Golden State Warriors had a chance to solidify their lead on the Western Conference standings but a late-game collapse against the Brooklyn Nets on Monday night doomed their hopes.
After leading by as many as 18 points in the third, the Warriors found themselves bleeding for offense in the fourth while giving up 41 points to the Nets to drop its second game in a row.
It doesn't get any easier for them next as they take on the red-hot Oklahoma City Thunder who have scored a string of wins to reclaim the top spot in the West.
The good news for punters looking for a betting angle on the home team is that the Warriors have actually beaten the same Thunder squad earlier this season.
With the Warriors playing in front of their adoring home fans and the Thunder missing Chet Holmgren here, the odds on Golden State to cover the spread is something worth considering.
For Golden State to cover the spread here, they would likely need a big game from someone other than Stephen Curry.
With Melton out for the season and Kuminga questionable, the Warriors will need Wiggins and perhaps Buddy Hield to step up here to cover the spread and possibly wrest the top spot back from a streaking Thunder squad.
Since losing Chet Holmgren to an unfortunate hip injury earlier this month, the Oklahoma City Thunder have been a completely different ball club, winning five of their last seven games to grab the coveted top spot in the West.
Oklahoma City looks to tighten its hold of the lead as they take on old tormentors Golden State Warriors next on the road.
However, despite losing 127-116 in their previous encounter with the Warriors, Oklahoma City heads into this blockbuster matchup as the slight favorites and that has a lot to do with the stellar play of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
With the Thunder in high spirits and the Warriors still trying to adjust from their injury woes, backing Oklahoma City to cover and possibly win in dominant fashion might be on the cards here.
Of course, Oklahoma City will still need to worry about Stephen Curry who lit them up for 36 points in their previous encounter but it is worth noting that the Warriors will miss De’Anthony Melton and potentially Jonathan Kuminga in this matchup.
It can be recalled that Melton and Kuminga gave the Thunder the business in their previous encounter, combining for 39 points while attempting just 22 shots from the field.
All things considered, the odds on the Thunder to cover the spread might be too good to pass up, especially with the Warriors not in full health
This is one of those games where you just want to grab a cup of coffee and enjoy. Put simply, this is a pick’em and could go either way, considering the pedigree of the Golden State Warriors and the Oklahoma City Thunder.
That being said, I am looking at the over market total here, especially with how both teams score the ball this season. For context, the over hit in five of the previous six encounters between the Warriors and the Thunder. Give me the over at -110.
