Two games are scheduled on the NBA slate: Houston Rockets vs. Oklahoma City Thunder and the Golden State Warriors vs. Los Angeles Lakers. This time, two-time NBA champion and 15-time All-Star Kevin Durant will make his debut with the Rockets. Better yet, he will be present for the ring ceremony for the reigning champion Thunder. Head-to-head, the Thunder have a 6-4 record against the Rockets over the last 10 meetings.
It's a full circle moment for Durant, who will face the franchise he spent eight seasons with. While the Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden era never quite fully worked out, Durant heads back to Oklahoma City on opening night. Traded to Houston in the offseason from the Phoenix Suns, a new era begins for both KD and H-Town. This week, Durant signed a two-year $90 million contract extension with the Rockets.
A young team led by head coach Ime Udoka will push for a championship after finishing second in the Western Conference last season. Although they were bounced by the Golden State Warriors 4-3 in the first round, there's hope on the horizon. With Durant at the helm, he leads a promising roster that includes Reed Sheppard, Amen Thompson, Jabari Smith Jr., and Alperen Sengun, among others.
With the departure of Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks via trade, the Rockets will sail forward after losing point guard Fred VanVleet to a season-ending knee injury. A young team hungry to win, this Rockets team will be defined by size, defense, and Durant's ability to lead a youthful core. They currently have the fifth-best odds to win the NBA title (+1800).
Aforementioned, the reigning champion Oklahoma City Thunder will receive their championship rings tonight. Led by head coach Mark Daigneault, OKC spent the offseason prioritizing the core roster.
In the summer, former MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren, Ajay Mitchell, Jalen Williams, and Jaylin Williams all returned to the team with contract extensions. In an attempt to run it back, Dillon Jones was the lone departure.
After winning its first NBA title in franchise history, Oklahoma City notably defeated the Indiana Pacers 4-3 in Game 7. Taking control in the second half, Gilgeous-Alexander was named Finals MVP.
The Thunder open the season as the top dog and the favorite to repeat as champions with +200 odds. That puts them ahead of the Denver Nuggets, Cleveland Cavaliers, and New York Knicks. A powerhouse on both sides of the ball, can the Thunder once again lead the NBA in defense?
The late-night opening showdown will feature the Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Lakers. Featuring two popular teams in the west, the Lakers are 3-1 against the Warriors in their last four outings.
Featuring several high-profile stars, the Lakers will be without star LeBron James, who will miss 3-4 weeks with sciatica. However, both teams made the playoffs last year, except the Lakers, who were bounced out of the first round by the Timberwolves. Golden State was also defeated 4-1 by Minnesota in the Western Conference Semifinals.
It's no secret that both teams are contending for a championship, and both teams have raised the Larry O'Brien trophy since 2020. For the Warriors, the window is closing with Steph Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green. By re-signing Jonathan Kuminga and adding veteran Al Horford, this group looks to compete alongside a competitive Western Conference.
Falling outside the top 10, the Warriors have +3000 odds to win the 2025-2026 NBA championship.
Nico Harrison and the Dallas Mavericks shocked the basketball world by trading star Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers last season. A blessing in disguise, Dončić will begin the next chapter of his career. Arriving at training camp in incredible shape, the Lakers prepare for a new era. With a full season ahead with the Lakers, Dončić committed to LA by signing a three-year extension in the offseason.
Headlined by Dončić and LeBron James, the Lakers' window to win a championship during the LeBron era is closing. However, under head coach JJ Redick, the Lakers bolstered their frontcourt with the signing of Deandre Ayton. Better yet, they added much-needed defense and depth with Marcus Smart and Jake LaRavia.
The Lakers head into this season with the seventh-best odds to win the NBA Championship (+1800). LeBron is fighting father time, and there are several question marks in terms of size in the frontcourt. However, Dončić is heading into his prime, and Austin Reaves is poised to take a giant leap this season.

Let's break down the betting odds and my best predictions for the Tuesday, October 19 NBA matchups! You can find all my best bets at FanDuel Sportsbook.
Are you looking to bet on NBA player props all season long? Here at Ballislife Bets, we've gathered a complete list of the best sports betting offers here.
GP: 62 | PPG: 26.6 | FG: 52.7 % | FT: 83.9 % | 3PT: 43 % | REB: 6.0 | AST: 4.2 | STL: 0.8 | BLK: 1.2
My first best bet for today, I placed one unit on Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant to record over 28.5 points and rebounds against the OKC Thunder.
This matchup won't be easy; the Thunder were ranked No.1 in defensive rating last season. However, I find it intriguing that Durant will start at the two guard with Amen Thompson in the backcourt.
Lu Dort's defense is no joke; however, Durant has the height advantage in this matchup. That is undoubtedly a choice to play a 6-foot-11 Durant at the two. However, he has the moves of a guard. This is why I bundled the points and rebounds prop line. At -104, this has great value, and I believe this is a strong play. Here's why.
Houston has a sizeable lineup with Durant, Thompson, Jabari Smith Jr., and Alperen Şengün. There will be plenty of rebounding opportunities. While the Warriors added size with Al Horford, the Rockets have the clear-cut advantage here. Given Durant averaged six rebounds alone last year, I'm fairly confident he can soar over this prop line from a points perspective alone.
In 62 games with the Suns last season, Durant averaged 26.6 points and an efficient 52.7 percent from the field and 43 percent from beyond the arc. We are talking about one of the most prolific scorers in NBA history. Can I really fade him on opening night? AND against his former team? Not to mention, he finished in the top 20 in field goal percentage and in the top six in points per game.
Although the Suns missed the playoffs last season, Durant crushed this player prop line down the stretch in 11 of the final 15 games. From a points perspective alone, he scored 26+ points alone in four of the last six games.
Now he gets a fresh start with a new team and will give the Rockets a much-needed offensive boost, as they ranked No. 12 in offensive rating.
Even though the reigning champs are elite defenders, Durant scored 26 and 28 points in two of their last three meetings. In fact, he cleared this points and rebound line in two games as well.
GP: 50 | PPG: 28.2 | FG: 45 % | FT: 78.2 % | 3PT: 36.8 % | REB: 8.2 | AST: 7.7 | STL: 1.8 | BLK: 0.4
For my second-best bet today, I placed one unit on Los Angeles Star Luka Dončić to record over 38.5 points and assists against the Golden State Warriors.
Dončić will enter his first full season with the Lakers after spending his entire career with the Dallas Mavericks. Only playing 28 games with LA last season after the trade, he heads into the NBA season trimmed down and rejuvenated.
Not only that, but Dončić had a historical summer in Eurobasket and is set to lead the Lakers, who will be without LeBron James.
We are talking about a generational talent in Dončić who's now entering his prime. Last year alone, he averaged 28.2 points and 7.7 assists. With his player prop line set at 30.5, I felt more comfortable taking the points and assists.
Down the stretch last season, Dončić averaged 33.6 points alone in the previous seven games. In three of those last four, he averaged 9.3 assists per game.
This year, the Lakers have scoring depth with Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, Marcus Smart, Dalton Knecht, and more. But without James, Dončić will be responsible for leading the Lakers, and the team's ability to stay healthy remains a huge question mark.
Without LeBron leaves the door wide open for Dončić to lead this team. In fact, he averaged 28.6 points and 8.0 assists in five games without James last season. Now he faces a Warriors defense who gave up the fewest points to guards last season.
Last year, Dončić finished with a 36.1 assist percentage and a 33.2 percent usage rate. I envision that only going up without James, and Dončić should lead the Lakers as the primary ball handler with Reaves.
Now with half a season under his belt with the Lakers, look for Luka to lead the offense. The Warriors may have been a decent defensive team and upgraded with Jimmy Butler at the trade deadline. When we look at things, who can stop Dončić around the perimeter? Golden State allowed opponents to shoot over 36 percent beyond the arc last year.
GP: 37 | PPG: 15.8 | FG: 53.3 % | FT: 69.5 % | 3PT: 0 % | REB: 8.9 | AST: 9.2 | STL: 1.6 | BLK: 0.5
My third best bet for today, I placed one unit on Houston Rockets center Alperen Şengün to record over 8,5 rebounds against the OKC Thunder.
Heading into his fifth NBA season with the Rockets, Şengün has emerged as one of the most dominant centers in the league. Last season, he averaged a career-high 10.3 rebounds per game, 3.4 offensive rebounds per game, and 6.9 defensive boards per game.
Aforementioned, Şengün may be fighting for size on this Rockets team; however, he's mainly an inside force who attempts few 3-pointers per game.
While his rebound prop line was a bit shaky, he faces a Thunder team that allowed the eleventh most rebounds per game (44.9). Even with Chet Holmgren and Isaiah Hartenstein, the Thunder averaged just 44.8 boards per game.
Now, Şengün may have some competition for the boards now that Steven Adams is 100 percent healthy. With that said, the Rockets have the ability to lead the NBA in rebounds easily.
Now that Şengün experienced his breakout season, he's a great defender who can read the pick and roll extremely well. He will continue to lead a Rockets team that led the entire NBA in rebounds per game last season (48.5). In fact, they ranked no. 1 in offensive boards per game (14.6). Look for Şengün to remain Houston's primary clean-up guy.
Let's bring in the Kevin Durant factor. Sure, Durant will most likely shoot close to or over 50 percent from the field. Most likely a high-volume shooter, Şengün will be a perfect fit alongside Durant on the offensive boards.
Şengün excels in switches, which is something the Thunder are elite in. The Thunder will deploy a smaller lineup compared to the Rockets, especially with Alex Caruso likely starting for the injured Jalen Williams.
