We get two Game 2s in the NBA Playoffs tonight, featuring the No. 1 seeds in each conference. Oklahoma City hosts Phoenix, and Detroit hosts Orlando.

But the mood is quite different for these top seeds: one is flexing its muscle and athleticism; the other is mired in an embarrassing losing streak that dates back to the George W. Bush administration. Back to before the era of Bitcoin, long before TikTok, and to when Donald Trump was a reality TV show host.
Odds are in favor of the No. 1 seeds. Opportunities exist on the spread (my point spread picks are below), but there are also many game prop markets available for wagers on NBA Playoff action.
I've used odds from FanDuel Sportsbook in this NBA betting article.
| Team vs. Team | Moneyline | Spread | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Orlando Magic vs. Detroit Pistons | +310 / -390 | +8.5 / -8.5 | O/U 218.5 |
| Phoenix Suns vs. OKC Thunder | +1100 / -2200 | +17.5 / -17.5 | O/U 215.5 |
My first game prop for PHO/OKC is a scoring market. If both teams score within the first minute of the first quarter, my $100 bet is worth $140.
In 17 of its last 24 games, the OKC Thunder have scored a bucket AND allowed a basket in the first minute of the game. It happened in Game 1, and both teams are committed to playing an up-tempo, shoot-quick offense to start a crucial playoff contest.
Last season, the Thunder were 15-8 against the spread (ATS) in the playoffs. That was the best ATS record in the postseason in the last 12 seasons for a team that played a minimum of 14 games.
The Thunder are built to pour it on. Behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams, Chet Holmgren, and Ajay Mitchell, OKC will have many weapons to blow this game open. And here's a scary fact: none of those players is even 28 years old yet. Plus, the Thunder have a draft lottery pick in June's NBA Draft. This team is going to be great for a very long time.
A winning $10 bet on this game prop will pay $47. That's where I'm at on this market, from the special game props section in the FanDuel sports betting app.

The last time a No. 1 seed lost the first two games of its first-round playoff series at home was in 2017 when the Celtics suffered that embarrassment. Before that, you have to go way back to 1993 when the No. 1 seed Suns lost twice to the Lakers in their first two playoff games in round one in Phoenix. Both those Celtics and Suns went on to win their playoff series despite starting 0-2 at home.
Detroit has the roster depth to get on the winning side and end the 18-year drought for a home playoff victory. The point spread is Detroit -8.5, which indicates the level of confidence the oddsmakers have in the Pistons to even this series. The Pistons should be led by superstar guard Cade Cunningham, who scored a playoff career-high 39 points in Game 1.
My $140 wager on Cunningham pays off to the tune of $100 if he scores at least 7 points in the first quarter.
The Thunder have covered the spread in 11 of their last 14 home playoff games. Yes, during the regular season, OKC covered the spread 48.2% of the time. But in the playoffs, this team steps up the defensive intensity.
This series is going to be short and not-so-sweet (if you're the Suns and basketball fans in Phoenix). Tonight's Game 2 in OKC will be a romp for the home team.
Tonight is the night. The Pistons will put an end to a long nightmare this evening in Game 2 when they finally win a home playoff game after 11 straight defeats. Many of those losses have been blowouts. But tonight, expect Cade Cunningham to step into the phone booth, don his cap, and play like Superman. Or at least SuperCade.
I will give away the 8.5 points and place a $114 wager to win $100 if the Pistons beat Orlando by at least nine points.
