The Dallas Mavericks will look to improve upon a great 2023-24 season when they open up their year against a young San Antonio Spurs team on Thursday.

The Spurs will be missing one of their key starters, which should increase the volume for two of their go-to scorers but could also create a soft matchup for Dallas' exciting, new acquisition from the offseason.
Without further ado, let's build a same-game parlay for Mavericks vs Spurs on Thursday, October 24th.

The Dallas Mavericks may be a bit weak inside, despite the addition of Daniel Gafford last season, but I think this is the night to back Victor Wembanyama to shoot the basketball.
With an injury to Devin Vassell and inexperienced men lined up behind him, Wembanyama should be glued into a matchup against an interior defender in Gafford who can struggle to defend on the perimeter.
I expect this means more shots from outside for Wembanyama, who began to take more 3-pointers as the year went on and shot 13 points better from outside in the second half as he rounded out his game.
Dallas ranked inside the top half of the league in 3-point attempts allowed per game according to Cleaning the Glass and Wembanyama will likely have plenty of space to operate in this one.
Klay Thompson may have shown some signs of decline last year with Golden State, but when it was all said and done the veteran still shot the 3 at just under 39% even if his minutes took a dive.
The offense may not be quite as structured as Golden State's, but Thompson should find plenty of space to shoot with the defense focusing in on Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving in the backcourt.
On top of that, with the injury to Vassell, Thompson will likely draw plenty of minutes against rookie Stephon Castle when he's not guarded by old friend Harrison Barnes, whose defense has declined in his later years.
The Spurs ranked 20th in 3-point defense a season ago according to Cleaning the Glass, and while that should mean plenty of shots for almost everyone on this team I think Thompson will be the greatest beneficiary.
Keldon Johnson was one of the more frustrating players to bet on a season ago due to his high degree of volatility, but when the gameplan called for the ball to be put into his hands he delivered with some excellent scoring nights.
Thompson may have the opportunity to get a ton done on the offensive side of the floor, but his defense has taken massive hit with the injuries he's suffered and that should give Johnson -- who shot the 3 better last season than he did in 2022-23, and finished with a better overall shooting percentage -- a green light here.
I expect Johnson, who can score at every level, to be a focal point on Thursday and will be set up quite nicely by his brand new point guard, Chris Paul. There should be big things coming for the Florida product, and that starts in his first game.
