This is by far the best matchup of the day between 15th-ranked St. Johns and sixth-ranked Connecticut. Expect the Huskies to bounce back after three straight losses to the Johnnies over the past two seasons.
One of the many reasons I love UConn this year to make a deep run is just how balanced their offensive attack has become. Sporting the 23rd-best offense in the nation according to KenPom, all five Huskies starters currently average double figures and the starting lineup hasn't changed much as they've started in 14 of the last 15 games.
That balanced attack makes it incredibly tough to scheme against UConn and provides consistency, because they still have options even if leading scorers Solo Ball or Alex Karaban are having an off night.
UConn can match the interior presence of St. John's thanks in large part to the recent play of Tarris Reed Jr. and the emergence of freshman Eric Reibe as a role player.
Reed has elevated his production down the stretch, averaging 13.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per game with big games recently. In the last two games, Reed has put up 26 points on 12 of 16 from the field, 18 rebounds and four blocks.
Although he hasn’t been very consistent all year, his physicality and ability to control the glass will give UConn a reliable paint presence against one of the Big East’s best frontcourts.
And if for whatever reason Reed is off, Reibe has added valuable depth by contributing 7.1 points and four rebounds per game in rotational minutes. The development of the 7-1 freshman center allows UConn to sustain size and rim protection when Reed rests, keeping the Huskies competitive on the boards and inside defensively.
At home, a good performance from the Huskies frontcourt could be the deciding factor against Johnnies star forwards Zuby Ejiorfor and Bryce Hopkins.

I plan on using the under here as a hedge in a way, but that doesn’t mean I don’t like the play. Given all the aforementioned points about why I lean toward the favorite, the under makes sense for many of the same reasons.
Both teams rely heavily on their big men to grind inside and convert high-percentage looks. That style shortens possessions and keeps the clock moving. So pair that with the fact that UConn plays at a snail’s pace (291st nationally in adjusted tempo, per KenPom) and it’s hard to see this turning into a track meet.
Fewer possessions typically mean fewer scoring opportunities, especially in a physical Big East battle.
While the Huskies’ offense is lethal when it’s humming, Rick Pitino typically does a great job of mucking up games and forcing opponents to operate outside their comfort zones. So even if UConn ultimately controls things at home, I see that path likely run through a slower, more methodical game script.
Back the Huskies to finally get a statement win at home in a gritty, rock fight type of battle. Don’t be afraid to include their moneyline with the under in a parlay.

A rare weather postponement pushed this matchup to tonight’s slate after the east coast was hit hard with a snowstorm. Regardless of when and where this game will be played, expect scoring in what should be a competitive Big East matchup Wednesday night in snowy Rhode Island.
Despite its 12-15 record, don't sleep on Providence as teams head down the final stretch of the regular season. The Friars a battle-tested unit and have played competitively against the best teams in the Big East, including a win over St. John's and an overtime loss to UConn.
When you look at Providence's metrics this season, it isn't surprising that the Friars play in a lot of shootouts. According to KenPom analytics, they're ranked 28th nationally in offensive efficiency but just 190th defensively. Their offensive ranking becomes even more impressive considering they've faced the eighth best collective defenses in the country.
However, what really drives home this point is the Friars' willingness to push the pace in transition. Providence ranks 18th in the country in adjusted tempo, which has been a significant shift from the slower paced teams Ed Cooley has coached in the past.
The first meeting between these teams totaled 181 points in a 97-84 Xavier win.
Finally, Providence commits a sky high 19.3 fouls per game and shoot 76.4% from the line. Both are factors that will stop the clock and help the over.
This shapes up as another wide-open, offense-first matchup with both teams sitting at 5-11 in the Big East and Providence at home this time.
