Undefeated is something that every team in sports, not just NCAA basketball, wants to be. Of course, few, if any, actually succeed in that endeavor in any given season, but with just a few games left in the regular season, there is still one undefeated team standing: the Miami (OH) Redhawks (24-0, 11-0 MAC).
So, the question is whether they can pull it off. Can they go undefeated? To do so, they will have to get past Friday’s opponent, the Ohio Bobcats (13-12, 7-5 MAC). The Bobcats lead the all-time series vs. Miami (OH) at 24-7 and won the last contest 75-66 (March 1, 2025).

It is not hard to figure out how the RedHawks have gone undefeated: these guys don’t miss a shot. They have the No. 1 scoring offense in the country (92.7 points per game), No. 1 field goal percentage (53.6%), and No. 1 effective field goal percentage (.626). They aren’t the best 3-point shooting team in the country, but they are still top 10 (No. 7, 39.8%).
There really isn’t anything they don’t do well. The defense isn’t spectacular, but it’s No. 5 in the conference (74.3 points per game allowed). They move the ball well on offense and don’t make many mistakes (No. 3 in the conference in turnover margin). To be fair, there is one thing they do not do well: rebound on offense (No. 339 in the country, No. 13 in the conference, 8.42 per game).
They last played on Saturday, Feb. 7, and beat Marshall 90-74.
As for Ohio, the Bobcats are not a bad team, but they face an uphill climb against the RedHawks. They struggle on the boards and with shooting 3-pointers. Should they fall behind, they will have a hard time catching up. They will need to get out ahead of Miami (OH) and force the RedHawks to make some uncharacteristic mistakes.
But with one of the worst defenses in the conference (No. 9), it is hard to see them slowing down the conference’s and nation’s best offense.
Miami (OH) does not play fantastic defense, but it is certainly good enough to contain Ohio’s mediocre offense. The Bobcats’ defense doesn’t stand a chance against the RedHawks offensive attack. The spread should be closer to 15-18 points and not 9.5. Miami (OH) will cover.

Here are the latest odds at FanDuel on whether Miami (OH) will go undefeated in regular-season conference play:
After Ohio, the RedHawks will face Massachusetts, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan, Toledo, and Ohio to close out the regular season. As long as they don’t have an off night, Western and Eastern Michigan should be easy wins; both are at the bottom of the MAC standings.
Massachusetts is .500 in conference play and has decent offenses, but neither has a defense capable of slowing the Miami (OH) offensive attack down. Toledo is the only team left with a winning conference record (7-5), but its defense has no chance of keeping up. Bowling Green has the best chance.
They are 6-6 in conference play but rank No. 4 in offense and No. 2 in defense, and they can score quickly (No. 1 in fastbreak points in the MAC).
Relying on outscoring opponents is not a great strategy, but when you do not have any impressive opponents, it can get the job done. At +410 ($100 wins $410), take ‘Yes” without thinking twice about it.
Large spreads typically make me nervous, but in this case, I think a large spread is warranted. Saint Louis is a solid team. They play well on both ends of the court, don’t make many mistakes, and shoot the ball well. They rebound well, shoot threes, move the ball well; there isn’t anything to complain about.
As for Loyola (6-19, 2-10 A-10), there is a very good reason why this team is such a big underdog in this game: they aren’t very good. They struggle to defend and are one of the worst shooting teams in the country. Heck, they have an average scoring margin of -10.
If the Billikens can’t beat this team by at least, they should be embarrassed.
