Key Points
  • With a win, Duke can tie Maryland for the most conference tournament championships, 10; Louisville has won just once (2018).
  • UCLA ended Iowa's win streak at three with a win in the tournament finals last season; Iowa is third in the conference (all-time) in finals appearances (9) and second in wins (6).
  • South Carolina and Texas are meeting in the SEC Tournament finals for the second consecutive season; the Gamecocks crushed the Longhorns last season, 64-45.
  • This will be TCU’s second appearance in the Big 12 finals and West Virginia’s fourth; both have won once.

NCAA Women's Basketball Best Bets for Sunday, March 8

ACC Tournament Finals: No. 12 Louisville Cardinals vs. No. 13 Duke Blue Devils

  • Spread: Louisville +1.5 at -112 | Duke -1.5 at -118
  • Moneyline: Louisville +102 | Duke -136
  • TOTAL: O/U 132.5 at (-120/-110)

Odds via FanDuel Sportsbook

When these two met in the regular season on February 5, the Blue Devils were the No. 17 team in the polls and Louisville No. 6. Duke exploded in the first quarter for a 23-11 lead, but Louisville battled back and trailed by only three heading into the fourth. The Cardinals took a brief lead in the fourth, but couldn’t hold on and lost by one, 59-58.

Both teams went 6-2 the rest of the way after that game and finished the regular season with losses. So, neither can claim momentum heading into this matchup, although Duke was pushed hard by Notre Dame in the semifinals before holding on to win 65-63.

Tajianna Roberts leads the way for the Cardinals on the scoreboard with 11.4 points per game, followed by Laura Ziegler with 11.2, and Imari Berry with 11. Duke is led by Toby Fournier with 17.6 points per game. Fournier led Duke in the regular-season game vs. Louisville with 15 points. Elif Istanbulluoglu led the Cardinals with 13.

My Pick: Louisville ML

  • Louisville has been scoring 80.4 points per game this season compared to 74.3 for Duke, but the deciding factor for me is the effective field goal percentage: Cardinals—52.1% to 49.2% for the Blue Devils. In a close game like this, I’m taking the team that shoots better to win.

Big Ten Conference Tournament Finals: No. 9 Iowa Hawkeyes vs. No. 2 UCLA Bruins

  • Spread: Iowa +12.5 at -125 | UCLA -12.5 at -106
  • Moneyline: Iowa +580 | UCLA -1200
  • TOTAL: O/U 135.5 at (-118/-112)

Odds via FanDuel Sportsbook

Iowa is a solid team. Solid on the scoring end (77.9 points per game) and good on defense (64.2 points per game allowed). It had a three-game losing streak towards the end of the regular season, but closed on a five-game win streak and handled both tournament opponents with relative ease.

However, the Hawkeyes are in over their heads against this UCLA team. With future WNBA talent in the lineup like Gianna Kneepkens, Gabriela Jaquez, Kiki Rice, and Lauren Betts, the Bruins are too much for them to handle. The four combine for an average of 58.8 points per game led by Betts with 16.6.

Ava Heiden leads Iowa with 17.5 points per game, followed by Hannah Stuelke with 13.8. Stuelke is also dealing with an elbow injury that could impact her effectiveness. Heiden had 19 in the regular-season game vs. UCLA, and Stuelke chipped in 13. They'll need more help from the rest of the roster if the Hawkeyes are to pull off an upset.

My Pick: UCLA -12.5 (-106)

  • Iowa is a good team and will do its best to make it a game. But the Bruins will pull away in the second half, if they don’t start to in the first, and easily cover the spread. The regular season game ended 88-65, UCLA. It would not be shocking to see a similar score at the end of Sunday's contest.

SEC Tournament Finals: No. 3 South Carolina Gamecocks vs. No. 4 Texas Longhorns

  • Spread: Texas +3.5 at -122 | South Carolina -3.5 at -108
  • Moneyline: Texas +126| South Carolina -168
  • TOTAL: O/U 136.5 at (-122/-110)

Odds via FanDuel Sportsbook

If you only watch one game today or this season, make it this one. You will be hard-pressed to find another basketball game, men’s or women’s, as evenly matched as this one.

South Carolina scores 87.1 points per game, Texas 85.2. The Gamecocks allow 57.3 points per game, Texas 56.5. Both are top 10 in field goal percentage, and play at a similar rate (73.8 possessions per 40 minutes—South Carolina; 73.5 for Texas). While hey are top 10 in field goal percentage, South Carolina has an edge in 3-point and effective field goal percentages.

Texas won the early season matchup by two (66-64), but South Carolina won the latter by three (68-65).

Texas has three players who average in double digits per game, led by Madison Booker with 18.9 points per game. She had 16 in Texas’ win over South Carolina and 24 points in the loss. As for South Carolina, they have five players who average in double digits, led by Joyce Edwards with 19.8 points per game. She had 16 in the loss to Texas and 14 in the win.

My Pick: South Carolina ML (-168)

  • The final score will be within a few points of the TOTAL and could easily go either way. Either team could win this game, but I doubt it will be by more than three points. But in Dawen Staley, I trust. She’ll have South Carolina prepped and ready to do what needs to be done and win a fourth consecutive SEC tournament title.

Big 12 Conference Tournament Finals: No. 15 West Virginia Mountaineers vs. No. 10 TCU Horned Frogs

  • Spread: West Virginia +3.5 at -114 | TCU -3.5 at -114
  • Moneyline: West Virginia +134 | TCU -180
  • TOTAL: O/U 128.5 at (-118/-112)

Odds via FanDuel Sportsbook

This will be the third meeting this season between West Virginia and TCU. The Horned Frogs won both prior games. The first was a defensive battle that featured TCU taking a 29-23 lead into the break. West Virginia won the second, 27-22, but fell short in its comeback bid to lose 51-50.

In the second meeting, they traded places. West Virginia led at the half, 28-22, but TCU battled back in the second half. Unlike the Mountaineers' comeback attempt in the first game, this one succeeded. TCU outscored WVU 37-22 and won by nine, 59-50.

West Virginia has four players who average double-digit points per game, led by Gia Cooke with 14.9, followed by Kierra Wheeler with 13.4. Cooke had 10 points and Wheeler eight in the first regular season game, and 18 and six points in the loss. As for TCU, the Horned Frogs have three players who average in double digits per game, led by Olivia Miles with 19.7, followed by Marta Suarez with 17.3.

They chipped in 14 and 11 points in the first game and 12 and 14 in the second.

My Pick: UNDER 128.5

  • I’d lean towards taking TCU to cover if you want to go with a winner, and the Horned Frogs are the better shooting team of the two. But I’m going with the obvious trend for this one. Both prior games finished UNDER this TOTAL, and this one will, too.
