OVER/UNDER (TOTAL)
One of my best bets for the NCAAW Elite 8, I'm taking the LSU vs UCLA matchup to total over 145.5 points for -114 odds on FanDuel. In addition, I have LSU to cover the +4.5 spread as underdogs.
UCLA's Lauren Betts and LSU's Aneesah Morrow headline the matchup, two players who will be monumental factors on the glass. Beyond these two stars, LSU and UCLA are two of the most dominant powerhouses on the offensive end.
Ranked No. 4 in the NCAA in points, this is a LSU team that put up 85.3 points per game, and UCLA, with 78.9. With the stakes extremely, high, I expect this to be a offensive showdown today!
Bettors recently saw LSU put up 103, 101, and 80 points against SDSU, Florida State, and NC State in the NCAA Tournament. They haven't had the easiest schedule, defeating FSU and NC State was no walk in the park. That's where the LSU +4.5 comes from.
Morrow is a huge presence in the paint, a double double machine, but let's talk about the supporting cast. No Angel Reese and Hailey Van Lith? No Problem. Mikaylah Williams has flourished in her sophomore season, averaging 20 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in the Tournament. Then you add Flau'Jae Johnson and Sa'myah Smith.
This LSU simply won't go down without a fight, although both LSU and UCLA hover around 33 percentage from the three-point line. Where both these team flourish is their inside game, and ability to attack the basket. This is why Morrow and Betts headline the matchup.
All of this in contingent on Flau'Jae Johnson, who left last game with an eye injury. Even in the game, can anyone on LSU stop Lauren Betts? Aneesah Morrow will give her a run for her money, Betts has consecutive 30+ point games.
All three of LSU's NCAA round matchups have soared over 145.5 points, with the Tigers averaging 94.7 points per game. Now they get a loaded UCLA team, who's hit the total over 146 just once of their three matchups. Averaging 81.3 points on the offense, the Bruins have been stellar on the defensive end.
As the Bruins head into the Elite 8, they've held opponents to 58.3 points per game. With that kind of defense, will they tame Kim Mulkey and LSU?
Although LSU will continue to fight until the end, this is a very talented UCLA team. Lead by Lauren Betts, Kiki Rice, Gabriela Jaquez, Londynn Jones, and Janiah Barker are just a few players that make this roster whole.
No. 9 in the NCAA in point margin (19.8) LSU has the grit and toughness to hang with UCLA (+21.1). The point differentials are extremely close, and I expect this game to be pure cinema.
