The new NFL season rolls on tonight with an international game featuring the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers in Australia. With two prolific offenses such as these, it should be an exciting game and a great night for betting on anytime touchdown props.
Last season, the Rams averaged an NFL-best 30.5 points per game. San Francisco wasn’t too far behind at 25.7. However, both defenses averaged around three touchdowns allowed per game (Rams: 20.4; 49ers: 21.8). If those numbers are indicative of what we may see tonight, then we should have some solid options for betting on anytime touchdown scorer props.

Here are my top three picks for tonight’s game:
The average total in an NFL international game has been right around 38 points per game. That equates to about five touchdowns per game (not accounting for field goals), which matches the average number scored in Week 1 games. But we should also take into consideration offensive tendencies, each defense, and the history between these two division rivals:
Armed with that information and more, let’s see if we can pick out the best anytime touchdown props for tonight’s game.

Davante Adams needs to be in the conversation because: (1) he is still one of the best wide receivers in the NFL and (2) he and Matthew Stafford connected on three touchdown passes in London last season vs. the Jets. So, we know Stafford will not hesitate to go to his WR2 in this game.
When we think of the Rams and the passing game, we tend to think more about Puka Nacua than Adams, but Adams led the team in receiving touchdowns (14 to 10) despite making 60 receptions to Nacua’s 129. Adams also led the team in red zone targets (22) and touchdowns (6). Nacua had 13 and four.
Now Nacua had a touchdown in both games vs. the 49ers last season, while Adams had one. But Adams was the preferred target in the red zone for the Rams last season. Since Nacua is the bigger threat, I expect the 49ers defense to key on him, making it a little easier for Adams to find paydirt.
With his ability to produce in the run game and as a receiving threat, Christian McCaffrey will easily be the most prolific offensive weapon on the field tonight. He is entering the game healthy and has a rookie, Kaelon Black, as his RB2. So, chances are good he’ll see the bulk of the carries for the 49ers tonight.
Last season, McCaffrey led all running backs in red zone carries with 74, scoring on 10 of them. He also led all running backs in red zone targets (24), receptions (20), and receiving touchdowns (7).
McCaffrey scored in 12 of 17 games last season. He accounted for about a third of the 49ers' 6,135 yards of offense with a little over 2,100 total yards. So we know he'll get the ball early and often, and he’ll be the go-to guy in the red zone.
That makes him a solid bet for an anytime touchdown at -145. But if you prefer touchdown props with plus-money odds, take him to score anytime in the first half. Six of his 10 rushing touchdowns came in the first half last season, along with five of his receiving touchdowns.
Mike Evans may be new to the wide receiver room, but he is listed as A WR1 on the depth chart. He’s not an all-purpose guy like Deebo Samuel, but he's a better wide receiver with a solid track record. Rookie De'Zhaun Stribling is the other receiver listed with the first-team offense.
Injuries have factored into his production in recent years. They limited him to just 30 receptions for 368 yards and three touchdowns last season. But he had 1000+ yards receiving in his first 11 years in the league and double-digit touchdowns in four of his last five seasons.
As far as his Week 1 production goes, in the 10 Week 1 games he has played in, he has had 5+ receptions in seven and scored in six. He has averaged 1+ red zone targets per game throughout his career. Last season, nine of his 61 targets were in the red zone, as were all three of his touchdown receptions.
At 6-foot-5, he gives Brock Purdy a big, athletic target. Evans will contend for every ball thrown his way against any defender the Rams put on him. Purdy would be foolish not to target him anytime the 49ers get close to the red zone.
